Scones in advance
A quick question. I'm expecting visitors Sunday afternoon and I want to provide some scones. Can I prepare the dough on Saturday evening, cut the scones to shape and keep them uncooked in the fridge and just pop them in the oven when needed It's a basic Delia recipe using self raising flour, butter and buttermilk. Anytime…

Mangetout peas recipes please
Just picked my first rather large crop of the year and looking for some imaginative recipe ideas to use them up while they're fresh as I dont, think they will freeze well. Any salad type recipes would be great as not keen on cooking much in this heat ! Thanks.

Tips for washing machine?
I live in Scotland,I have noticed no matter what machine or powder I used I got white marks on clothes and if I accidently mixed something the colour was always there, oh and there was always lumps of powder still in tray. I used white vinegar this time (wasn't sure what tray to put it in though) all the powder dissolved…

Laundry ball for washing clothes?
I have seen this on ebay and am intrigued. Do clothes come up clean with just the laundry ball? Are they any good? Does anyone use one?

Supermarket shopping secrets
Did anyone watch the new BBC show 'Supermarket Shopping Secrets' with Gregg Wallace (yes, another show with Mr Wallace) and Babita Sharma last night? Whilst some of it was a bit 'Inside the Factory' (for those that have watched it), some of it was quite interesting talking about how the supermarkets are 'battling' with…

Recipe for coleslaw
It seemed a good idea to use the carrots and white cabbage I have in to make a home-made coleslaw. I've put them through a food processr and now I'm wondering what to do next. I have a large jar of mayonnaise but know I need to add something to it, before mixing with the raw veg, but not sure what. Onion? Vinegar? Other?…

Afternoon you knowledgeable peeps.... Hope you're all enjoying the great weather! Spare a thought for the poor hayfever sufferers though... Was wondering if there were any old style remedies for hayfever that any of you might be aware of. The pollen count seems to have been ridiculously high recently:o Many thanks

Weekly Flylady Thread 19th June 2017
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Making broths and lentil soups, some hints wanted
Bought a massive broth mix at Asda and a normal sized lentil mix. I don't want anything too hard to make, chopping up veg seems awkward enough. I do have a lot of sausages I can add to make it meaty.

Professional Oven cleaning
I know it isn't very money saving, but has anyone had their oven cleaned professionally? How much does it cost? Did the job live up to your expectations? My oven is really disgusting, and I'm wondering whether I need to invest in a thorough clean, and then start from scratch with regular cleans myself before it gets too…

Lidl pizza trays
Lidl are selling these at the moment. Has anyone tried them? I like the space saving idea (my oven only has two shelves ). However I wonder if they are too close together and you would end up with soggy pizzas because there's not enough room for the air to circulate. I have a gas oven, might be different in a fan oven.…

Eat well for less - series 4
I can't see a thread for this, I think it was the first episode last night (just come back from hols so not sure). The Caan family seemed nice, but were spending £14k per year on food. Including a massive £80 per week on takeaways (2 adults, 2 kids). The visit to the nutritionist showed the massive amounts of salt…
