Any idea how to clean this? - Update!
I have a white linen coat/dress that has been hanging in a cupboard for years.....and years. It's discoloured along one side, kind of yellowed. I left it in bleach/detergent overnight and washed it this morning but it's still a bit yellowed on the seams and cuff/collar edges. Any ideas what else I can try? Would Glo-White…

Slow cooked chicken thighs
Hi, in trying to persevere with my healthier eating, I cooked two chicken thighs in my small slow cooker the other day while I was at work, I came home to find they had dried up! I am totally disinterested in cooking again. Have I done something wrong? I did put in a stock cube in some water.

Cooking chicken breasts
Hi all! Wondering if you can help me (hopefully in time!!) I'm a vegetarian and I have a friend over for dinner tonight who usually eats vegetarian with me but he's discovered he's allergic to wheat which rules out nearly everything I have in! Im doing a roast dinner and I've picked up some fresh chicken breasts but really…

Beetrot and lemon ravioli sauce
Hi, I have been given M&S beetroot and lemon ravioli. MIL sent FIL to shop for ready made meals when she was bed bound and that is what he brought home. She was not impressed. She sent him for lasagne! he can just about boil water and shift stuff into the oven, but certainly cannot start making sauces! He did not buy a…

Best and cheapest deep fat fryer oil?
I had one before that I liked, it may of been rapeseed that made chips and things amazing. Just bought a new 2.5 litre fryer as my old one was far too small and even making enough chips for one person was a task in itself. Also means I can attempt home made fish and chips now. I like chips that come from a Chinese as they…

Little Free Pantry?
Have you heard of it? http://www.littlefreepantry.org I read about it in Waitrose magazine, and understand it's based on the Little Free Library concept. I was particularly interested as Olio hasn't really taken off locally and wanted to know if there was another way of sharing unwanted food with others, in an anonymised…

Weekly Flylady Thread 12th June 2017
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Cleaning Coins
Odd One. I am using R1 coins to make cufflinks for my wedding. Now I had some coins and I wanted to clean them up and make them shiny so I put them in some vinegar. It was too strong and I left them in their for about a week (I forgot about them) and now they are faded, dull and have black "tide" marks on them. Can I save…

Chia seeds
2 very sensible & good cooks I know have recommended Deliciously Ella Every Day, and looking through, I can see why, although I would definitely adapt (as I always do!). However, I am unconvinced by 'chia seeds' which are expensive. Any good MSE alternatives? Thanks!

Tough Beef Is It Me Or The Meat ??
Had several beef 'Roasting Joints' over the last few months & been very disappointed with the results after cooking. Pinkish in the middle but can only describe the joints as tough or chewy. 2.25lb weight of the joint cooked at Gas Mark 4 for 20 minutes per lb plus 20 minutes. So total cooking time of about 1 hour. Is it…

Smart prepayment meter
Sorry if I have posted in the wrong place. I'm on British Gas prepayment meters, and they want to change over to smart meters. Is this a good idea? Has anyone has this done, and is this a good or bad idea 😱 Thanks for any advice.
