Size of loaf tin?
Sorry if this is a stupid question ... I'm planning to make a cake at the weekend (unusual for me!) and the recipe calls for a 1kg loaf tin. I've got a collection of tins (from when I used to bake a lot) but I can't work out which one is the 1kg loaf tin. Does anyone know the measurements of one so that I can check? Thanks.

Gluten & Lactose free bread query
I would like to know if it's cheaper and/or better quality to make your own Gluten & Lactose free bread. The thing is, Gluten & Lactose free bread tends to be rather expensive. Not to mention I've seen reviews for ready made bread being extrememly varied. Sort of like, for some it tastes awful, others they neither like or…

Can anybody advise me either where to get the bigger flakes or how to get this right please? The raspberries came from my garden, I used jam sugar…

Accidentally dyed a skirt in the wash
Hi everyone, This is a long shot, I have read all the previous threads for advice. I put a load of pale colours in together and unfortunately a (new-to-me) pale pink top dyed a vintage Laura Ashley skirt I had also just purchased. I have never had a problem washing pale colours and whites together before and all the other…

Cooking bacon ideas?
Hi all I bought some cooking bacon from Mr T but I am struggling to use it up. Yesterday I diced some up like lardons and used in a pasta dish. It is quite thick and not really rashers. Ideas and suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks Gintot

Grass fed organic meats
Does anyone know if there's an online seller or grass fed organic meats? There's a UK based shop but they don't deliver to Ireland. https://www.coombefarmorganic.co.uk

Weekly Flylady Thread 5th June 2017
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

cotton sheets
Hi I want sheets like our grand mothers had. Strong thick cotton sheets. heavy duty stuff. The cotton sheet sellers mention thread count "good quality sheets start at 180 thread count and are considered percale." and they go up to 800 - 1000 thread count, but they are being marketed on being a satin like finish i.e. super…

Getting rid of white spirit in freezer
Somehow we managed to spill some white spirit on top of our chest freezer and some of it must have found its way in. I ended up defrosting it and having to throw some food out, thankfully not much. I cleaned it with disinfectant, washing up liquid and cif. It seemed clear so I put it back on but no such luck... Just had…

What to do with over blended pesto?
I had some basil and spinach, so decided to make some pesto. However I used my new blender and it now looks like a pea green soup. I did want to make a pesto pasta salad but the texture isn't right. What else can i do with this gloop? Parmesan cheese, olive oil and pine nuts are too expensive to waste. Thanks in advance…

I know I can put something like bleach in the bucket but…
