O/S Daily Thursday 8 June 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and getting ready for work, as is DS1, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Raining and still blustery winds here this morning, it's forecast to improve during the day.

Dinner last night was pizza and chips for the boys and gyros and stir fried veg for me, DH had food en route as had a later finish than normal.

Work yesterday was steady, but I was in an office on my own so could work more at my own pace, had felt somewhat better Tuesday but yesterday didn't feel so good again. Last night went to bed and ended up getting up as DH said I was making a good awful noise and he couldn't sleep, so I've spent the night on the sofa, but I have managed to get some sleep. (He's a selfish * at times!) I will be visiting the GP surgery this morning to see if I can get an appointment - I'm fairly sure they are going to say they can't give me anything but I've been like this since last weekend and although my throat is not quite so bad, I'm still struggling to swallow and not improving enough to think I'll be ok to leave it over the weekend. I've also now got a cough that sounds like I'm on my last legs - so don't want to be going down the route of chest infection etc. or worse. I need to get an appointment first - that will be the challenge!

Will just potter along doing what I can as I obviously don't feel up to much.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

I went shopping yesterday with my new shopping trolley, and was pleased to find that the cost of what I bought was £5.51 than it would have cost me had I of bought it in one of the supermarkets that I could get to and carry it home. It will be good to have a much better choice of shops and I think I can make even more savings because I should now be able to shop at Aldi as well. This way it will pay for itself within a few weeks, so I am pleased with my purchase.

This morning I’ve got an appointment for a blood test and then I am meeting a friend in town for a coffee. She is only in the area because she is on a training course, and I haven’t seen her for nearly two years as she lives in Ireland now, so it will be great to catch up.

Then this afternoon I have got a surveyor coming to look at the end gable wall on my place. I have been worried about it for a while now. I think it is bowing out slightly. I do hope that if there is a problem it is nothing too serious, and that if there is something wrong that it is covered by the buildings insurance, although I can’t remember offhand what the excess is on the policy.

Nelski I hope you are finding some time for yourself. What you are going through with your mum pretty much mirrors what happened when my dad passed away, and my brother behaved in exactly the same way as your has/is.

    Right, time for some tea.

I hope that you all have a good day.

    Morning All

It's a bit gloomy this morning but dry for now. Just going for a swim, could have done with sleeping for a bit longer.

Went to a podiatrist yesterday as I have a corn between my toes. She was very good but completely barking! My feet feel better this morning and I have a rubbery thing to put between my toes as the little pinkie's joints have fused and it rubs against the other.

Ran in for a quick shower and back out again to friends DDs school show. It was really good, so much hard work by all involved.

Hope the sweat peas give you lots of joy Gers.
Hugs to you Nelski, I always think this is the hardest time.
Sounds like your trolley will be worth it holly.

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning all

I sold my sofa's yesterday and my steam generator iron and got quote for the boiler to be serviced. SIL came and collected tools from the shed and took the pc that we no longer need.

My car is full of stuff to be given away and I cleaned the walls and floors upstairs.
Today, after work I'll clean downstairs.

I can't give away my slow cooker or my easiyo yogurt maker.

The fridge is empty and the last small freezer will be done today after work.

I have 2 parcels to wrap up and send off, an eBay sale and an amazon return.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone.

Dull here again, I'm hoping there won't be rain.

After my busy day yesterday I'm a tad stiff though I'll loosen off soon.

Only got my final two hours of teaching from 11am- 1pm to do then I'm off to Glasgow. DM decided not to come up this weekend but now she's got an emergency appointment with her dentist tomorrow morning so I'll take her. A little TLC needed.

Nothing much else to report here so far.

Happy General Election Thursday to all.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting off.

Gosh HESTER the end really is in sight now. I hope your new life afloat is all you dream it will be when it finally becomes your permanent forever home. I am envious!

Back to miserable weather again but at least the wind has died down. The taller plants in the garden are looking very battered, flattened and sad.

It's a good job I had defrosted and tidied the freezer yesterday as DD arrived to pick up youngest DGD last night weighted down with bread and rolls for me! She had detoured into Morrisons on the way home, just as they were making final reductions on bakery items. She got me Tiger rolls 15p, Granary rolls 15p, 6 Mariner rolls 19p, Farmhouse loaf 15p and 2 baguette sandwiches for 19p each which she thought would do nicely for our lunch today!

I want to do a top-up shop this morning at Aldi. Don't need much at all (especially bread ha ha) but want to get back on an even keel with my regular shopping day of Thursday. Then down to the retail park to stock up on bird supplies. We will cast our votes at the village church on our way home.

The three DGDs are here after swimming/diving for tea and sleepover. Bolognese Bake has already been requested. It goes without saying as it's what they want every Thursday after swimming!

Have a good day all and (HUGS) to the poorlies, sad or worried who want/need one. Take care folks xx

    Morning :hello:

Nels The kong is filled with peanut butter. Like your SILs dog, he goes mad for it but only when it's in the kong :D I wedge a biscuit in sometimes, he's worked out how to get it out easily though so it doesn't keep him occupied for long. He's a chewer, most of the damage happens when there's no treats but he just wants to get his teeth into something.

tiredmum I use smooth peanut butter (danger of choking if it's crunchy, especially the way Scampi eats it - so fast I'm sure he breathes it in, lol) and make sure there's no xylitol, it's an artificial sweetener which is bad for dogs.

Scampi's having fun with some massive bones a friend dropped off the other day. He says they're venison bones but I don't believe him, I think they're from a t-rex :DCLICK ME

I'll work for an hour this morning then have an exercise session. I feel bunched up (I was looking for a word to describe it, bunched suits perfectly, lol) and I think it's time to get back to some proper exercise now that my hip is looser, it's been far too long. It's going to hurt though :D I'll sweep and hoover later, how fast I get it done depends on how much I'm aching :D

That bone is almost as big as Scampi! Should keep him quiet for a while. x

    Morning all,

Not raining here atm but looks like it might do later on we have had rain pretty much all week.

Off to work for me and I shall vote on my way home, we would normally all go together and stop at the pub on the way back (to drown our sorrows over the sorry state of who to vote for :D ) but as the weather is not looking good we will all go separately on our way home from work.

Nor sure about dinner tonight will go and rummage in the freezer after this, must do a wash tonight too.

    Have good days all xx

PS must be something about brothers mine was useless when dad died and has been since, he has not spoken to me for over a year, since the bailiffs turned up at my 80 year old mothers after he said that his debt was hers  I gave both bailiffs and him very short shrift !

    Morning everyone.

Really didn't want to get up this morning. I'm so tired and got a headache. Also don't want to go to work but no choice with that one. Roll on Sunday and a day off.

Nelski hope you're taking care of yourself.

Have a good day all x

  • Morning all, where has summer disappeared to? the sky is leaden here this morning and it's windy and chilly and grey and I want my sunshine back!!!

We're off on the bus to the Blue and Yellow Swedish shop to look at (and sit on) a possible new sofa and armchair for the lounge. We got our present suite second hand when Docky was growing from a pup into a long legged boy and the one we had originally just wasn't wide enough to accommodate those spidery leggies. (I know that's sad and he was just a dog.....Oh no, he was much more than that!) but it's beginning to look very worn and weary now but He Who Knows is NOT a natural shopper so I hope he likes this one as the chances of me getting him into the city again this year are fairly remote.

The plots are beginning to produce in quantity which is nice but time consuming with picking, processing and freezing so spare time to do other things is relatively limited. Nice to have freshly picked peas for supper last night though! It looks like being a bumper fruit year for berries this year, the loganberry and blackberry bushes in the garden are laden and so are the raspberries and gooseberries on the allotment but we seem to have very few redcurrants on the bushes here, ironic really as we bought them a fruit cage in the autumn to keep the birds off, who would have thought that plants had a sense of humour???
