O/S Daily Wednesday 21 June 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Light bright and sunny, still very hot.

Dinner last night was HG new potatoes, breaded chicken pieces, salad, coleslaw/pasta salad. Not sure what we will be eating tonight but will again try to find something not too heavy or that takes too long to cook.

I'm working all day and the part of the office I'm working in isn't air conditioned, I'll just take it steady.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all
It's supposed to be the last really hot day today with maybe some showers.
I went out last night with DD1 and 4 of the DGC, 2 of hers and 2 of DD2's, we had a lovely time.
I have one crochet blanket nearly finished and one just started for an expectant colleague but it was too hot to do any last night.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester.
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Thank you nmlc for starting the thread x

Another sweltering night, I was glad when 5am came round and I could get up. It is supposed to be a little bit cooler today but it is already 28 degrees inside :o < literally the colour of my face at the moment :D.

DD17 is already in the shower as she and her sister went to the beach last night and didn't get home till nearly 11 and it was too late to have a shower then. I think it is just me and DD16 at home today. I am hoping DD14 manages to go to school although she was a bit upset yesterday as her support worker is leaving and she has grown quite attached to him. Well, we shall see when she gets up.

I am planning on making a few different salads today and I also bought a couple of lasagnes for dinner tonight so minimal cooking today. I made a curry last night and I nearly melted into a puddle whilst cooking it.

The house has slipped a bit so I will need to get it tidied up today. I am not expecting any visitors but it is making me a bit stressed looking at the mess. I have to finish the admin as I didn't really get started with it the other day. I have some fairly urgent letters to post so I will get out of the house for a little bit too.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning :hello:

I've thought of you every day lately redruby in the afternoons when it's been the hottest. I've worked in kitchens, the hottest was the local school. There's a row of windows in the kitchen, all along the one wall. Perfectly placed to catch the sun right on lunchtime! The way they opened meant they could never be angled down to catch the breeze. The school is only up the road but I used to ride my bike to work, for the single reason of cooling down as I freewheeled down the sloping drive on the way home :D

My dermatitis is playing up so I'm using baby wipes instead of washing my hands til it calms down again. But they were warm so I've stored them in the fridge :D

Scampi usually only likes a bit of him in water at a time, lol, but last night he got into his paddlng pool and led down. I could see the relief on his face :D He also likes the hosepipe on the jet setting, he 'eats' the water, it looks vicious and comical at the same time. But he's scared of the sprinkler and will go out of his way to avoid the water, if his ball lands too close he just stops playing and lies down, lol.

We'll go for an early walk again this morning then I'll let Scampi in the garden til the sun comes round. I'll get some work done while the washing machine is on, once that's on the line I'll be hiding in the lounge with the fan, doing nothing :D Not sure if miss tru is home for lunch, if she is I don't think we'll be having our usual lasagne. We'll eat ham salad rolls while complaining about the heat, lol.

    Morning everyone.

I slept all the way through the night apart from a bathroom break. It's light here and still dry, rain is forecast again.

Today will bring me three staff development sessions and then a hair cut. The decorator will be making a start on prepping the hall, she's a demon with filler/ caulk.

Packed lunch is ready, chicken salad and just my flask of tea to sort. Easy day.

I wish the sane easy day to everyone, happy Wednesday.

    Morning everyone,

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

Another hot day in store down here. I just hope it isn’t too hot at the hospital. I will melt before it gets to my turn.

Yesterday was too hot for me to cook so I bought some picky bits that I could just have cold with some salad and I was pleased I did because I didn’t feel like I could have stood in the heat and cooked yesterday, it would have been too much for me. There is plenty of food to last for another couple of days as well, so that is good.

I stripped the bed first thing yesterday and it was dry on the line in less than half an hour and back on the bed. Not that I’m using it at the moment, I’ve just been sleeping (or tossing and turning in the heat) on the top of the bed.

Time to go and get another cup of tea and something for breakfast.

I hope that you all have a good day whatever you are doing.

Thanks Tru It really is unbearable atm, I had a bit of a funny turn yesterday I had a salad for lunch and was sitting under a tree for some fresh air and shade when I started to feel really funny I thought I was going to faint got back to the kitchen where they put my feet in ice water and gave me ice packs to hold an a cold drink in front of a fan, it took a good 15 mins to get back to normal, it felt like some kind of heat stroke but I hadn't been in direct sun, it was weird.

Off there again today and tonight I am off to an awards ceremony for one on the youngsters at work, I put her in for an apprenticeship course, she has done the first year, and she has been put in for apprentice of the year :T we will go for a bite to eat afterwards, I hope she wins she really deserves it !

OH and dd can cook for themselves tonight, there is some filled pasta and garlic bread so not to much effort.

Right better get on have good days all xx

No chance of heatstroke here! Yesterday was lovely and sunny, fairly warm with a nice breeze. Today it's overcast and a bit drizzly. Just be careful RR.

I've been up for ages, the new table and benches are arriving today so I had an early shower, DD is on her way to take over waiting as I have to leave for work soon.

Had a lovely time last night - 7 courses (a forkful for each course!) and a few gins, train home and I was tucked up in bed for 10.30. Would thoroughly recommend the place, a little courtyard tucked away in the middle of town. We saw the ariel restaurant in George Square - not something I fancy - what if you need the loo!

Hope you all have a good day, stay cool. Take care. XX

    Good Morning team

redruby that doesnt sound good ...are you drinking enough water? I know I don't even in normal weather but you need to drink so much more now

Tru I envy scampi with his paddling pool maybe I need to buy myself one :o

Speky Thank you for that I can assure you my SOH goes out of the window quite regularly at the moment but if I can laugh at something in a situation I will so much better than crying eh :cool:......................oh and dont you believe that Jackie O AKA mummy dear .....no way did we stay up till the small hours drinking wine :eek::eek: (it was gin )

Bit cloudy here today in fact its currently verging on grey ....hoping it sorts itself out soon

Yesterday was the usual fun shopping session followed by a very exciting trip to the tip then lunch at the local butchers restaurant. She's decided she doesn't like the new microwave I got her as it has different buttons than the last one (which was 15 years old) I am getting mightily sick of her attitude so I just smiled and said well never mind you will have to use the hob then wont you :D Decision is to stop taking it to heart the instructions are clear and if she would read them instead of relying on my to sort then she would be up and running in minutes its a real simple one.

lots of paperwork to do today (every time I go round she has another 10 envelopes for me most of which need action....I never thought I would look forward to just junk mail)

Food will be somat cold ....maybe a caesar salad :)

Enjoy your Wednesday everyone and keep drinking lots (water )

    xx
  • Morning everyone, hot old night here last night but not having slept much the night before I slept until 4.30 today so it's going to be another long day but hopefully less tired.

Today my little grandson is having (hopefully) the operation to close his cleft lip, it has to be done some time and if he's passed fit enough by the anaesthetist today is the day, could wish it was cooler for his parents who will be doing the most worrying though. We are also having new carpets fitted and have emptied our bedroom of wardrobes, chests of drawers etc. and all that is left in there is the bed frame as we're having stairs and landing re-carpeted too and don't know where the fitters will start (bed has to go on landing if they do the bedroom first). Food today will be light and cold, I might do stuffed peppers for lunch and salmon salad for supper and I have a mountain of gooseberries to top and tail for the freezer so I'll sit under the umbrella in the garden and do that job before it gets too hot to go out. Cookie dog goes to the hairdressers today and her mum has asked them for a crew cut, I won't walk her until this evening when it's cooler, too hot for her little feet in the heat of the day!

The garden continues to give generously , loganberries galore at the moment and the raspberries on the allotment are just starting to give us a few ripe every day so busy prepping for the freezer on all fronts, worth the work for the produce in the colder months though so we don't mind!

Have a good day all, xxx.

Tru a friend of mine posted this on Facebook yesterday.

Plesse read ...sharing. Please share as we nearly lost our Stanley...
On a very hot day we all think keeping our pets hydrated is the best thing right?? Well no yesterday after keeping Stanley in the shade all day I let him have a paddle with the children in the pool for about 15 mins in the shade also! and Stanley being Stanley was jumping around barking for the children to keep splashing him, he kept trying to bite the water he was running around the garden barking and having so much fun so after about 20 mins I towel dried him and he starting shaking I thought he had just got to cold so laid him in his bed but then he just went down hill making this awful noise as if he needed to be sick kept turning his head to left and going round in circles he quickly became really lethargic I knew at this point that something wasn't right so I called emergency vets told me to get him there asap I did and he was quickly whisked away, I then learnt that stanleys body had gone into drowning mode and started to starve the brain of oxygen he had water intoxication! My poor baby was lifeless the children screaming and crying and it was all my fault! Overnight I was told i was told it was touch and go and they would do their best to keep him alive fortunately for us after what felt like a lifetime at home we received a phone call at 12.30 am to say Stanley had responded really well to oxygen therapy and could come home! Never did I realised a dog catching water can be fatal so please please keep an eye on your pets when playing with water... Stanley is slowly becoming back to himself and there doesn't seem any lasting damage but some dogs don't make it!

    Just in case.
