Supermarket shopping secrets

Did anyone watch the new BBC show 'Supermarket Shopping Secrets' with Gregg Wallace (yes, another show with Mr Wallace) and Babita Sharma last night? Whilst some of it was a bit 'Inside the Factory' (for those that have watched it), some of it was quite interesting talking about how the supermarkets are 'battling' with each other to limit food waste from their stores.
Sainsbobs were featured for trialing a waste-reduction scheme with some of their customers, including an app where you weigh all the food you waste and it calculates the amount of money you are basically chucking in the bin.
(apologies if this has already been covered by another thread!)

I did think that, and it's not just an issue of the fridge – what about the freezer plus any cupboards you might have?? I suppose it might be helpful if you see something on offer and it might not be on the list, but it would be good to stock up on? I don't know....:pEvery act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️

I saw it and thought how useful it would be if I could buy a net of three avocados, each with a different ripening date. Not everyone can shop daily to get produce at the height of its' freshness or ripeness, and that would be a huge improvement and save a huge amount of waste.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

I stumbled across it, saw a bit and thought "Nothing in this programme is anything like my life, my expenditure habits, my food habits...." and I think I nodded off.
Greg the Gurning Grocer's a real downer for me. Such an annoying irritant.0 -
I watched it. I don't mind Gregg Wallace but I very nearly switched off when he did a piece to camera close up. Woah! Too much GW.
I did switch off when I'd sat with interest how a 'handmade' cake still is made via machines in a factory with the only handmade element that was shown was shoving a biscuit base into the ice cream and then, then, this beautiful frosty igloo appeared in a big snowflake plastic dome with a dodgy looking tacky penquin fixed to the front. Off! :rotfl:
Out of interest did the penquin make the final cut for Christmas?0 -
Ohh. Just remembered I watched that, or at least some of it before nodding off
Taking a photo of the contents of the fridge is the sort of thing I do
. It's not that I'm lazy, just scatty and it's usually when DH is already in the care waiting to go that I think, what's needed? so a quick photo and I can work on my list whilst heading into town

Taking a photo of you fridge so you don't buy stuff you already have...
So you walk round the supermarket clutching your iPad, reach the yogurt section, check your iPad photo and realise you don't need yogurt. Yawn. With a shopping list you can miss out the yogurt section completely and save time.0 -

I'm still intrigued if there is an app out there which will work out your food waste in pounds and pence without having to go to the lengths of researching all the prices yourself (as featured in the show).Every act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️

I accessed it via replay at about 2am this morning. All I remember was the intro and lots of gurning before I fell asleep. If any tips had registered this would not have been the case.PasturesNew wrote: »I stumbled across it, saw a bit and thought "Nothing in this programme is anything like my life, my expenditure habits, my food habits...." and I think I nodded off.
