Rice Pudding
Just wondered if anyone could advise me about making rice pudding. I cant see it in the recipe thread and mine always goes wrong. I dont have a slow cooker. When I try making it with less rice I always end up with a very small amount of rice and a lot of liquid. The rice seems to be cooked but should I have cooked it for…

Quick Recipe needed (well kind of!)
Hi My little boy loves cooking (he's 5), and I thought that jam tarts seem like quite a fun yummy thing to cook, however I need a bit of direction LOL I was just going to buy a packet of pastry mix as from memory I 'think' that pastry has lard in it and didn't fancy buying a pack just for these. And I was going to use…

Marmalade disaster - carbon in the pan!
Time to 'fess up and ask for help - I made my first batch of marmalade several weeks ago, followed Delia's receipe almost to the letter, but boiled it too hard for slightly too long. Result = thick layer of burnt stuff on the bottom of the pan, and six jars of what could best be described as "smokey" marmalade. My husband…

Cleaning handmade curtains/blinds - not sure of fabric
It's March, the sun is out, and it's time for some spring cleaning! We moved here three years ago and were left two pairs of curtains and several roman blinds which had been handmade by the previous owner. They are all in dire need of a good clean. Trouble is I have no idea what the fabric is or whether it is washable.…

Baking / washing / ironing days ...
I've just been reading the "doing without supermarkets" thread ... And someone commented on "baking days" .... I do work P/T in the week, so I do…

Using the contents of my Freezer
I went where no man has ventured before today (at least for some considerable time) as the freezer really had to be defrosted. I found some very strange things in there, cos I can't resist a bargain and I hate throwing food away (born in the 60s!).....don't feel the need to eat it all up at once now, which is progress.…

Baking question..
Hello, I'm fairly new to baking and would appreciate some advice. I baked some soda farls today which taste lovely but are quite hard on the outside. Now traditionally in NI our soda farls would be quite chewy on the outside but not this hard.... I was just wondering if more experienced bakers would know what causes this?…

How to clean baking trays/roasting tins?
When I cook jacket potatoes in the oven, I do it the Delia way (!!!!! skins, rub in oil, bake at 190 for 2 hours etc). Problem is, this seems to leave a sticky residue on the baking tray which I can't clean off, no matter what I do. I don't know if it's the oil, or the juices from the potato, or the two combining to create…

Free Slimming World Slow Cooker Recipe Booklet from Morphy Richards
I hope this is useful to someone. I emailed Morphy Richards after getting the 6.5l slow cooker (cheapest was on Amazon, not sure if it still is?) as I wondered if they had any more recipes as the one with the book didn't really float my boat. Which would need to be a REINFORCED boat seeing as I've put on a coupla pounds…

Reheating chicken in slow cooker
I have a massive chicken in the freezer which I am going to defrost and cook for lunch on Sunday. However, there will be loads left and as I am working on Monday, wondered whether I could turn some leftovers into a casserole using the slow cooker. Anyone any idea whether this will be OK, I don't really fancy salmonella…
