E10 Petrol from September 2021
Only found out about this today. Went on the Govt car checker site and still not sure if it will impact on my OH's car. This is what it says: Mercedes-Benz E10 petrol is cleared for use in the vast majority of all Mercedes Benz vehicles with petrol engines, except: * First generation direct injection C200 CGI (W203), CLK…

Driving licence replacement scam!
I foolishly got caught yesterday on a website that looks like DVLA! Unfortunately even though I searched the web given by DVLA this one came up top, I didn’t notice the ad part! So they’ve charged me £94 for their chewing service and you have to provide driving licence and passport details to renew the licence! Their email…

Clutch Failed After 9 Months
Hi all. Hoping for some advice here. 9 months ago I bought a car from an independent motor trader. The selling point for me was the fact they said they’d just fitted a new clutch. Today I’ve found out that the clutch has failed and needs replacing, with only 5000 miles on it. I know that after 6 months I’m out of luck in…

No fault insurance premium increase
My car was parked on the side of the road well away from other parked cars when a car from the other side of the road reversed into my side drivers door. She admitted full responsibility. I told my insurers of the incident who told me my premium might go up. I explained it wasn’t my fault. Rightly so when it came to…

Code P0170
So I had this on a Nissan Note 2011 and I cleared the code. Couple of months later, it's back. Clearly there's an issue that needs sorted although the car drives and behaves as it should. Any suggestions or advice on fixing it. Or just leave it? Will it be mega £££ warranting a full engine strip down (well you know what…

Anti Static Strap, do they Work?
I get a static shock every time I leave my car, unless it's raining. If I manage to get out without getting a shock by leaving the car door open and letting my wife shut the door I get one when I touch my house door handle. Are these anti static straps any good or are they just a gimmick?

Cash for car or pcp?
I am confusing myself so hope you can help. Currently have some money in savings account and thinking of buying a car outright- no PCP. However I am cautious of it taking just over half of my savings pot . My thinking is that I could buy it and then what I ‘would’ have paid into a PCP for 48 months, i then pay back into my…

I always get beeped at this jcn - is it me or every other driver on the road who is wrong?
This slip road coming off the A41 and going into Hemel splits into two lanes as it approaches a junction. When busy, every single car sits in a long queue in the right-hand lane. I use the always-empty left-hand lane and get angrily honked and flashed almost every time as I follow the road to the right. Tonight a car…

Parking Fine for not following the exact instructions
Hello there everyone. I'm new here and was really hoping I could get some of your advice/expertise. I have recently received a letter for a parking fine. It's a fine issued from a private company, Civil Enforcement, and they've obviously sneakily called it a Parking Charge Notice (PCN). It was issue for my being in the car…

Insurance premium goes up after holding license longer than 9 years?
I done a comparison for car insurances and they only had the option to say license held for 9+ years. It gave me a quote of around 511 with eSure. Last time I used a comparison site, it gave me 1st Central Insurance and I just bought it without reviewing the details. 4 months later, 1st Central contacted me saying I had…

At fault parking accident followed by total write-off by other driver 3 days later - options now.
Hi everyone Just last week I was comparing car insurance as mine was up for renewal next week! I would have had 6 years no claims, with one non-fault accident in 2019 (another driver reversed into me at speed at a petrol station and I couldn't go anywhere as there was a line of cars behind, their insurance fixed the…

Can temporary traffic lights record your vehicle?
Hi all. Stopped at temporary lights for about 5 mins. There was no traffic whatsover from any side. This was about 4am. It looked as if there was some technical issue with the lights. It went straight from red to green and then back to red again all in a matter of about 2 seconds. These particular temporary lights had a…

I was wondering if any if you could offer some advice on this dilemma. Heading to Cornwall from London in August, a long ol drive. When is a road not a road?
Our road is broadly parallel to another and both go over a small waterway. The other road you'd barely notice you are going over the water but our road has a historic bridge. The bridge has bollards at each end making it physically impossible for a car/van to get on it but there are no signs at all. You get onto our part…
