i have placed my wife's personal plate on a retention certificate online with DVLA and had confirmation back that i can put the original plates back on the vehicle. i have ordered a set but they will take a few days to arrive. (i have not received the updated V5c registration document yet). how long can she continue to drive her car with the personalised plates on? we pick up her 'nearly new' replacement car on friday afternoon so have not informed insurance company yet either until that date is confirmed.
many thanks

I usually still have the original plates that the car came on in the garage. but you obviously don't and in your scenario what other option do you have but to drive around with the private plates still on?
Local shops won't make you plates without the V5 and online suppliers take a couple of days, so you've zero other option.
The 'overlap' is easily explained in the unlikely event you're pulled over.0 -
i've hunted high and low but cannot find the original plates (it was around 9 years ago that they were changed)!
many thanks for the advice.0 -
You need to inform your insurance company that the registration of the vehicle has changedtonygold said:i have placed my wife's personal plate on a retention certificate online with DVLA and had confirmation back that i can put the original plates back on the vehicle. i have ordered a set but they will take a few days to arrive.
