Please point out any flaws in my plan!
I’m hoping I have come up with something brilliant but I would love for you all to point out any flaws in my plan. My daughter is 17, has her provisional licence, has had a few lessons and is keen to get some practice in my car so I have been investigating insurance, which of course is huge once they pass their test. We…

Advice after failed MOT
I am looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with the MOT process. In February 2018 I took my Vauxhall Zafira Tourer into my local Vauxhall dealer for an annual service. I was informed by the garage that the front brake pads needed replaced so I duly agreed to have the work carried out. In May 2018 I took my…

New car purchase plan
I am buying a new car and can pay cash. The dealer wants -- insists -- that I take an arrangement where I pay about 40% of the price now and the rest in two or three years time. The salesman says that the dealership will pay be £750 to do this. What's the catch? How does it work?

Motorhome left parked on road
I doubt anything can be done but its always worth asking the question. I live in a row of old terraces the kind where people have to park on the road and there is only just enough room for cars to get through the middle of the road. Someone has parked a motor home which has not moved for weeks (i don't suppose it will…

Road tax
Hi there Looking at buying a second hand car and run it into the ground. Looking at road tax for a 308. If it is registered before April 2017 the road tax is £30 but if registered after its £150. That means cars registered just a few days apart will have a significantly different road tax bill (totalling £1200 over 10…

Speeding and moving house
Hi All I've been driving for 10 years and never had a speeding ticket or any points. I got pulled over today for driving 88mph in a 70mph. I was given a verbal notice of prosecution. The officer advised I would likely get a letter within 6 months. I told him I was moving next week and he said setup a postal redirect. The…

DIY Scratch repair
Hi all. My wife has scraped the side of my car against the rear quarter of her car. The damage isn't too bad, but pretty annoying as this is an otherwise mint 18 year old car I have looked after meticulously. You can see the damage here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/aw7ARJgPV5BCQB7z7 Am I right in thinking that the black bits…

Part-exchange partner's car for my purchase, is it possible?
Hi, hoping someone can tell me whether what I want to do is possible / common? I own Car A (newer) and partner owns Car B (older and less efficient, starting to cost money with repairs etc). I would like to pass on Car A to my partner (with the change of keeper details etc) and buy a newer one (Car C) myself. If possible…

Does this sound like a misfire?
Hi All, Have low mileage 2012 plate Corsa SRI. About 3 months ago I ended up getting well and truly stuck on a very wet Welsh hillside (long story) but only way to free the car was to absolutely floor it :o . Freed the car but burnt the clutch in the process. Smelt of burnt clutch for the rest of the journey, and after…

Car Finance, what IS the best way?
I'm 60 now (Healthy, fit and still working) and been buying cars for literally 'decades'. I usually get a bank loan and do it that way. I can usually seal a reasonable APR around 7-8%. But I never feel I've chosen the best way. I bank with FD, and they mass advertise their 3.3% rate but they rarely if ever offer it. I've…

Bad PCP choices catching up with me

Car Battery Issue
So my car battery is flat as lately it doesn’t seem to be holding its charge and I’ve had to keep jump starting it. I’d say the battery is only a few years old. It’s a Lion Performance 030 so it wasnt cheap. I bought a BuddyGo car battery charger, plugged it into the mains and onto the battery, switched the plug on and the…

2004 VW Beetle issues

Sometimes it struggles to start, and when it does there is no power for a few moments then all of a sudden the power comes back. I have read the codes which were stored and it said that it is something…

HI On the 9 Dec I purchased a car from a dealer through hire purchase, the car is 2 years old and had a advertised mileage of 17000 . The salesman informed me that the odometer was faulty, but I could take the car and arrange to have it done at my local Vauxhall garage, as the car was still under warranty and if Incurred…
