Speeding and moving house

Hi All
I've been driving for 10 years and never had a speeding ticket or any points. I got pulled over today for driving 88mph in a 70mph. I was given a verbal notice of prosecution. The officer advised I would likely get a letter within 6 months. I told him I was moving next week and he said setup a postal redirect. The redirect is 48 quid and I don't trust my local post office whatsoever (they regularly mess up my post and give it elsewhere due to where I live).
Is there anything I can do? If I update my driving license will they not check my new address? I asked if I could check any other way i.e online and he said no I need to do redirect and it should be fine. I don't want to leave in the hands of my post office!
Any advise would be welcome! And yes I am an idiot for speeding, I won't make any excuses.

Just to add he said it would likely be a 3 pointer with fine as I was over threshold for a speed awareness course.0

Don't be paranoid... Just set the redirection up. Millions of people do it, and it's mostly extremely reliable.
If the redirection misses anything, then at least you can show you did everything you could to ensure your post was delivered. If you don't set it up, then you can guarantee 100% of your post won't be forwarded on, right?0 -
I used a redirect service and it seemed to work perfectly - of course you dont know what you dont know .... If you're moving, it will be useful to have - there's usually someone you forget to tell0

No. They will use the information the officer gained from you at the time you were stopped.
That excess should see the offer of a Fixed Penalty (£100 and three points). These are usually made within a month to six weeks. The six months the officer mentioned is the time limit for prosecution in court and this won't get to court unless you allow it to. If you have not received your offer within about six weeks get in touch with the ticket office for the area concerned to see if it has been sent. You only have 28 days to accept the offer but after about four months the offer will be withdrawn in any event and the matter goes to court. Then, although not irrecoverable, things get messy.0 -

Don't forget to update your registration certificate for the vehicle also.0 -
Geez. You really want to get away from your old house, don't you?0

Just contact the court/local police station and notify them of your new address. date and time of offence0 -

You could do. The local court will not be involved in this matter at all. The local police will be unlikely to tie up your new details with the offence. To rely on them to do so is a bit precarious.0 -
When we moved counties in 2000, I sold our old house to the son of an old mate. I asked if he would redirect our mail himself and he was fine with that. I printed out a sheet of Avery sticky labels with our new address and gave him a dozen 2nd class stamps. This worked perfectly and I received all the mail that might have got lost in the system. He even used a label to send us the last 3 unused stamps after mail for us stopped arriving at the old address, in his own envelope, although I was not bothered about them: it was worth a few stamps to get the mail.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

As stated the court will know nothing and neither will your local Police station. What you can do is contact that forces Traffic Criminal Justice Unit and advise them as the prosecution will now be with them. Make sure you give them date time and location of the stop and even better, the reporting officer.0
