Buying a new Car

Options
Hi,

Which is the best car buying website (i have heard of the likes of carwow) for getting the best discount on a new car. Or is going into the dealer first the best option to get the lowest price?

Thanks Paul

..go to Carwow and get a price for your chosen car. Then take that price to your local dealer and see if they can match it. (It worked for me!)...I think Carwow will give you a better price than just going to your local dealer. Even if they can't match it it's no big deal to get a car from Carwow even if it means a train trip!

    Also look at drivethedeal.

Use their prices to negotiate with a main dealer.

thanks for that, both of the places you mention, carwow and drivethedeal gave me a price of somewhere between 20 and 25% of RRP as their price. Does this sound a reasonable discount?

    Depends on the vehicle.

We bought an Aygo years ago through drivethedeal and achieved 10%, but it was a cheap car and the dealer couldn't match it.

Mass produced such as Fords and Vauxhalls 20-25% is quite possible.

Take these prices from sites like Carwow with a pick of salt.

I ran quotes for 4 different models on Carwow with a few factory options and not one dealer that quoted would/could sell me the exact car at the price they quoted.

They all tried to steer me in the direction of similar cars, different trims or without some options or in different colours that they had in stock and they were quite shy to put in writing they couldn't supply the quoted car for the price they quoted.

By all means try it, see how far you get, though if you want something exact that requires a factory build, don't hold your breath.

    Try DrivetheDeal, Carwow and Broadspeed.

Find the cheapest price then go to your dealer and get their best price.

If its higher than the best broker price, ask them to price match.

If they dont, buy from the broker.

I got quotes from CarWow the last time I bought (Nissan Qashqai) and saw quotes of up to 12% off the list price. However checking Autotrader I found that one of the dealers that had quoted me had the model I wanted available as a "pre-reg" offer. I ended up buying that and saved about another £2K.

OFF not of they mean 2 different things.

12% of the list price or 12% off the list price

    Obvious typo is obvious...

No one would be selling a new car for 12% of the list price.
