Worth fixing car before selling it?
Hi I wanted an opinion from seasoned private car sellers. I am about to sell my first car: VW Golf 2008 GT 170 BHP TDI DSG @ 57,000 miles. As I have been learning how to drive, my car has a accumulated few scruffs and bumps - nothing major. Mainly scratches and small dents around the bumper. The car is in good condition…

Car Insurance - Smashed Windscreen
I got home from work last night and went to use the car and noticed that my windscreen had been shattered. Its looks like this may have been deliberately done. I contacted Admiral to use the windscreen cover on my policy. They said that someone would call me today to arrange a time to get this replaced. However when the…

Please help! Insurance issue...
2 and a half weeks ago I was mugged on a street and my bag was stolen where I had my house keys, car keys, bank cards, driving license, and other personal things. Police was called and informed. Later on that night I called police again as there was a suspicious van driving around my house... like someone was looking for…

Lost no claims discount
Hi Hope someone can help me out. I had the maximum no claims discount for years however, when I cancelled my last policy in August 2012 I did not know that I would lose out on further discount if I did not take out a new policy in the next 12 months. I am a named driver on my husbands policy so no need for a separate car…

Car Ins renewal auto reduced price..
Car insureance renewal came @ £52 per month (was paying £41 last yr) did the usual comparisons and found it was roughly £35-40 with most "high street" companies. Phoned my insurer to let them know and they reduced it instantly to £38. So agreed to go ahead with it. Docs came in the post and was set up for another year..…

Garage Caused Fault and Won't Own Up
Hi, My wife took our Mini to get the clutch (and DMF) replaced last week as the clutch had failed and it wasn't driveable. She used the garage next to where she works as it was easiest thing to do under the circumstances. Clutch is now fine but she noticed a warning light (picture of a steering wheel with a lock) and…

can you lease old (aka not new and cheaper) cars?
Been offered a new job and just doing my sums. Impractical to get there by public transport to car is my only option. Will be doing 60 miles a day and don't want to buy a car as had too much trouble with them in the past. Can anyone suggest somewhere where I can lease a car that is cheap? Don't care at all with the car as…

Faulty used car (third time) now over 6 months
Sorry for the long post. In need of some advice (again) before we scrap this POS and write off a lot of money. End of November - purchased a second hand car from a dealer (85k miles), advertised as in good condition, we were not made aware of any faults. P/X & cash to purchase. - 2 weeks later car starts getting stuck in…

Main dealer servicing
I recently had my Honda car serviced at a Honda dealer (whom I have remained faithful to over eight years from new). A few days later, 20 miles into a 120 mile journey on the motorway, the car broke down - a fault with new brakes that the dealer had fitted. I rang the dealer. Me: Your repair has caused me to break down.…

Bought faulty car from trader on autotradr
Yesterday I bought a ford fiesta from autotrader. Its a 2006 plate. I test drove it but didn't find any problems. He said if you have any…

MOT fail?
Lights. If the bulbs work, does the car pass? If the glass lamp cover / lense has a hole in it (half inch diameter) would that be an MOT fail?

Used Car Warranty - Misled at point of sale, and unwilling to payout
Hello, I am well aware of the pitfalls of used car warranty, but I was sold a policy in good faith. I paid 1850 for the car. It's a rare japanese import but the parts are not hard to obtain. 2 days later I notice a knocking sound from the rear and confirm that this is from the 2 rear differential bushings. I have been to 3…

Possible exhaust issues?
On my way home, whilst approaching lights, I noticed a strange scrapping noise from the rear of my 2004 ford focus. When I came to a stop the noise stopped so I guessed something was scrapping along the floor. When I pulled away the noise was still present but then seemed to stop even though I was still driving. The noise…

Underbody rust repair
My car has a patch of surface rust on the subframe (about the size of 3 £2 coins). Its currently very superficial and I'd guess that it is a result of a garage jacking it up and damaging the underseal on the car. I was wondering which products would be the best to repair this. I will sand off the majority of the rust and…

F1 Autocentres are money grabbing cowboys.
Hello, I was quoted by these cowboys £420  to replace a Catalytic converter which I brought from a salvage yard. The Catalytic converter was a genuine Mini part removed from a 2011 Mini cooper with only 5,000 miles on the clock. It only cost £125 which I was over the moon about, but the replacement cost had me in…
