Hi, I'm a new member. I have joined so I can share my attempt at saving money on fixing my car by using parts from breakers and the problems we have encountered. (Sorry if this is of no interest to anyone) My peugeot 307 sw had some serious turbo problems, peugeot dealer wanted over £3k for a new turbo and related parts so…

Fiat Punto - brake pipes
Apparently, the old Fiat Punto's had an inherent fault, i.e. the brake pipes. If your's is one of those, a Fiat Punto Dealership will replace them for free, saving you about £200.

Buying a small van
Over 5 years ago I looked at a small van. It was a dealer pretending to be a private seller. Anyway, I looked at the underside of the vehicle, and noticed the rear wheels were not totally aligned. Apparently, it is called roping, the rear axle/wheel support is damaged, so the seller uses a fine rope to align it - the fact…

Help! Bought a stolen car
Tuns out I bought a cloned car on Thursday for £3400 via a private sale that it is assumed is therefore stolen. I'm totally gutted. The reg passed a £5 hpi check and wasn't listed as stolen- the reg plate used anyway was fake and the police inform me that registration does correspond to an identical spec and colour car at…

Dont scrap it, break it.
I've repeatedly seen "scrap my car" threads where advice given is to strip rather than weigh in. So here we go. I've a W reg Corsa lying in the drive that I bought with the intentions of fixing but alas, I've decided not to. Engine hydrauliced, that aside it aint too bad. Step 1 was buy 100 metres of 1 metre wide bubble…

Trader non-refundable deposit query?
So I found this car - it was a great example of the vehicle, with a seemingly decent history (HPI check etc) and generally all seemed kosher. So I placed a deposit, signed a little slip of paper saying the deposit was non-refundable and went the day after to buy the car with a friend. As we were going to lay down the money…

scrapping my car for cash
Anyone had any experience of scrapping their car for cash? I have a 2001 Vauxhall Corsa that needs lots of work done and will cost too much to get fixed (more than the value of the car). Not done this before so if anyone can give me any pointers and tips on what to do it would be much appreciated.

Breakdown cover: RAC, Green Flag or AA?
These seem to be the best 3 companies out there. All their reviews are mixed. Online with Green Flag I got a quote for basic cover of £37.10. RAC starts from 29.99 but then adds over 100 'new member fee'. Would green flag do this too? I just want a basic package that will town me to nearest garage if they can't fix by side…
