    Thanks for that, Just wondered if anybody had any first hand knowledge ? car comparison sites dont tell you the initial deposit.

    Isn't the deposit only relevant if you either have no credit card in which case you'll struggle to rent a car at all or intend to lose your deposit perhaps by stealing the car ?

    I thought the desposit was usually to cover the insurance excess.

    Seems they are sneaky about this sometimes. One company said no excess on the insurance but you lost the deposit if the car was damaged.

    Sounded crap so didnt bother with them.

    Deposit can be cash or card, Either way they take it and refund if everything is OK. But dont if they say you damaged something.

    £20 a day and £350 reserved on my credit card was what I got for a 5 day hire.
