Speed bumps = hefty repair bill, worth claiming?
I have just had to pay £270 for 4 new springs on my corsa. All 4 had SNAPPED over a period of 9 months since my last MOT. I strongly believe the speed humps that are strewn along my road are the cause of this. I cannot leave my road without going over at least 3 humps, one being a few yards from my home. To and from work…

service help please
we have inherited a hyundai trajet, 04 reg from a friend. But i know it has only had its first sevice in 2005. Nothing since. It had the brake pads changed 18 months ago and oil change then as well, and has 48,000 miles on the clock. I know this is a bit silly, but i can't really afford a service, and was hoping someone…

Why is it longer travelling north than travelling south?
The thread on how long you can run after the red fuel light comes on has reminded me of a strange conundrum. I used to drive quite a lot from Scotland to Norwich and it was exactly 400 miles and I would always get there on a tank of fuel with the red light coming on about 20 miles short of my destination. However on the…

Flaking clearcoat
We have a Toyota Corolla (2001) and the clearcoat has started to flake in a few places. Is this unusual and is there anything that can be done to the patches where it is happening i.e aerosol spray to repair?

Finding information on car repairs on driveway and oil in drains
A neighbour of ours has basically stripped his car to just the shell of the car - no engine, wheels, exhaust etc and is up on 'mini stilts'. First of all is this type of work allowed on a driveway? And secondly oil from the work is on the blocked paved road and gone into the drain. Should I be worried?

Turbo diesel cars
Many modern cars are now sporting Turbo diesel engines in order to drive up power output and reduce emissions. If you have one of these, have you realised the cost of repair should the turbo fail? Also,do you realise the importance of keeping a check on oil level and also replacing the oil and filter regularly with good…

Car dealers don't take me seriously...
I'm not from this country, so maybe I need to learn how to talk and act, here. When I stopped by a used car lot today, I wasn't able to get much help. We'd checked out several cars listed on the Internet I went by myself to look at them while my husband stayed home with the children. I wanted to get a look at them, kick…

Recommend a cheap run-around for the wife
Hiya, the wife's 1994 Punto is pretty much classifiable as a death trap nowadays, and I'm not entirely happy about her ferrying the little one about in it, so I think time has come for a replacement. Don't want to spend too much given the ever-looming fear of redundancy! Probably £3k or so at most. She wants something with…

Petrol light to empty - how many miles?
How many miles of around town driving ( just a guesstimate, please) will it be before a 1.8L Mondeo runs out of fuel after the petrol warning indicator lights up/beeps? I've a voucher for 5p off a litre in Tesco but it's 15 miles to the nearest Tesco petrol station, which we'll be near to later on today.

The greenest car is the one you already own!
It seems the environmental dogma has spread, the gov is promising money to scrap your car! Since creating a new car is devastating to the environment, it is estimated for a greener car to be beneficial to the world, it has to travel 200,000 miles to outweigh the environmental cost of it's creation!

Finding the right garage
Hi all, I need to advice. Up to date I've always used a garage from back home, but have always paid what I felt was too much, such as for unimportant things such as refilling washer fluids etc. Anyway, now I want to get my car serviced in Cardiff, but don't know where to take it. There seems to be loads of them, literally.…
