Will being a loan guarantor affect my mortgage app
Hi, I'm new to the forums on MSE and need advice. My brother has asked me to be a loan guarantor for him as he has poor credit history but needs a loan over the next 18 months to help him with some home renovations. I have a good credit rating, and salary, and have no doubt the guarantor aspect will not throw up any…

Survey when remortgaging?
Just wondering if it's required to get a new survey done when I'm remortgaging? If so, why on mortgage comparison sites do they not take into account the cost of the survey which each lender offers? I mean I've just checked a few different providers, and their homebuyer's surveys vary in cost from £200-£600.

Halifax fees help
Hoping for a bit of clarity on this one, We were looking to get a mortgage with Halifax, we got a DIP and the relevant checks were done. Our broker said we would pay £200 for a valuation fee, if and only if we get the mortgage amount agreed. Halifax came back offering to lend us less than the DIP and after a couple of…

First time mortgage advice needed
Hello, a mortgage adviser who I know personally says they have me a decision in principle of £76,000. I've read around and I think I may have issues when I actually apply. This is because I believe he put it through on last year's P60. I've earned a lot less this year and there's gaps in my pay slips for the school…

Lump sum overpayment before switching mortgages?
So I'm looking to switch my current fixed term mortgage over to a different fixed term mortgage, since I can get a much cheaper rate elsewhere. However I'm also looking to potentially overpay by something like £15k this year. My limit with the current provider is around half that, and I think it'll be similar with the new…

New house: 5 vs 10 year fix?
Hi, I have to admit I'm struggling with this decision; I'm about to take a mortgage out with Nationwide for £127,000 on a £263,000 house purchase, so a LTV of less than 50%. I'm 50 and likely to remain in this house for a long time and the monthly repayments to pay off in full over a 10 year term fit in with my budget -…

Hi, I took out a 2 yr fixed rate mortgage on a house in my name nearly 8 years ago. When it finished, I let it slide onto a tracker mortgage as interest rates were tumbling. In those 8 years, I have met a man, got married, had 3 kids, been made redundant from my job and gone self employed! My husband doesn't have a great…

Lock in mortgage offer?
So, we're coming to the end of our first 2 year tracker mortgage. We bought our house for £230k in May 16, on a 95% mortgage, 17y term, 4.09% APR, £1488/month. The house is now worth £245k according to our lender's index linked valuation. The mortgage is down to £202k, meaning ~82% LTV. We have three and a bit months to…

Hello, I had a bit of a shock yesterday as I got an AIP done with Halifax and it was far less than I was expecting. Source of funds
First time buyer here and I'm finally looking into buying a property. I've lived with parents since leaving school (now 27) and have saved 80k despite a modest income of 24k. I've lived rent free - so have basically zero out goings. Right from the start I've had my money in ISAs/peer2peer lending/multiple current accounts…
