Does anyone know how underwriters think?
Hi, We're considering trading up to a larger house, but my better half has recently made a career change to become a teaching assistant and has subsequently gone from a permanent job to a temporary contract. Our mortgage is with Co-op, who will lend us 4.25 x my salary (33,661 - £143k), but we are likely to need a bit more…

Re-mortgaging for ancients
I need to re-mortgage my property to raise a lump sum of £42, 000 (less than a quarter of what the property is worth). But I'm 65 and a lot of companies won't lend beyond yr 70th birthday, leaving me with only 4 1/2 years to pay off the loan and, therefore, a whacking big monthly repayment rate. I could try to go the…

I have been trying to sell my flat for a few years; however, when we first put it onto the market and had a purchaser, the market collapsed and the recession reared its ugly head; the B2L ran away. Two years down the line, we have started rethinking what we should do, as the property is not shifting as it is more…

Halifax undervalued my house and made me pay a higher rate
Hi there I took out my mortgage at the end of last year with Halifax via London and Country mortgages. I was already with the Halifax but my previous fixed rate had ended. I wanted a fixed rate again. I was told there were only rates. The lower rate was if I had a low LTV and the higher rate was if I had a better LTV. I…

New mortgage - House purchase
Hi, I'm after a bit of advice if anyone can help. When moving house, does the bank use the actual market value of your new property for mortgage purposes or what you pay? i.e: If a house is valued at £250k but you manage to purchase for £200k and have a £50k deposit, would they say you had a 25% deposit or 40%? Thank you
