Can we get a FTB deal?
I currently have a mortgage for my flat but my fiance has only ever rented. Therefore she is a FTB but I am not. We are now looking to buy a house together (joint application) and I was wondering if anyone knows if any banks/building societies would consider us as FTBers because she has never had a mortgage? I guess it's…

Order of priorities
Hi, I'm hoping to begin saving for a deposit for a house. However as a couple, we do have some debts. I know now that lenders are assessing people with stricter criteria so main query is... We have around £9500 of debt. £2000 in one bank account overdraft, £1500 in my partners account overdraft, £2000 on my credit cards…

interest only
Hi, I'm sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question but I am a complete novice when it comes to mortgages. We have a repayment mortgage with approx 120,000 outstanding. We are about to lose a huge chunk of my OH's monthly income due to the credit crunch. We are already struggling to meet all our monthly bills so we are…

What do I classify as?
Hi I already have a mortgage, joint with hubby, on my current home but want to buy a second home with a mortgage (not to let). When I'm looking for another mortgage, what do I look under? I'm not FTB, moving home or remortgaging. There isn't a problem with affordability (enough equity and income) but I don't know where to…

Can you port a part Interest Only Mortgage to another lender?
We've just hit another hurdle in our mortgage saga! Part of our mortgage (£50k) is on Interest Only with a ISA attached (20 year term of which paid 10 years so far), the rest is on repayment. How does it work if we port this over to another lender? Can you port the ISA product or would we need to leave this and…

Rejected after a decision in principle
Hello there, Any thoughts would be appreciated: We currently own a flat with approx 15% equity in it (after assuming a 20% decline in price). We want to rent this flat out and buy a new property. The flat's income will cover the 125% mortgage payment benchmark (even on capital repayment) and we have a 15% deposit for our…

Mortgage payments - in advance or in arrears
I completed on my new flat on 27 July and my agreed date for mortgage payments was coincidentally 27th of the month. I had set aside a month's extra payment as I thought that today (27th August) they would take out 2 payments (one in arrears for 27 July - 26 August and one in advance for 27 July - 26 August). They've only…

should erps be banned?
what is the point of early redemption penalties other than to keep people in debt longer and therefore screw them for more interest? why on earth are they allowed? surely any loan should be allowed to be settled in full at any time. anything else is immoral and should be illegal.

The best rate available at 90%
Hi Guys, I have all but given up getting a 95% motgage now, I actually only managed to find one place that did them and the rate was so stupidly high nobody would go near it anyway! So I have decided that 90% mortgage and 10% deposit is my best bet. I am fully aware that a 85% mortgage would get me even better rates but as…

Fixed Rate Mortgages
Hi We're struggling to pay our mortgage which is fixed rate for another 2 years. We have had a baby and my partner got made redundant in the last year. Although he has another job it isn't paying as much and I am now working part time because I have free part time childcare. If I worked full time I'd be worse off paying…

Overpayments vs Variation of Mortgage Term
I've just remortgaged to get a better rate (3.99%), and I'm now in a position where I have the funds to overpay regularly (keeping my payments as they were before the change, plus a bit more). I'm with Abbey, and they do not allow regular monthly overpayments. I can overpay each year up to 10% of the outstanding balance,…
