I approached a L&C broker to remortgage as our 4.24% 2 yr fixed comes to an end next month and they told me that they can't help us because none of the banks would lend to us? They told us to go back to our current lender (A&L). DH is on 50K and I am home with my son, we need to borrow £160K (house worth £500K). Our…

A friend of a friend sold us an emdowment on our first property in 1993. It was for 30k at the time and was a With Profits policy with Scot Prov. We moved property and took out a further endowment with another company. Both were miles off target to repay our mortgage and the second company paid us £2500 when we stated that…

I'm about to offset my savings against my mortgage but have been told that I may come unstuck as some Savings Rates are now higher than Mortgage Rates  This might be a mad question but how would my offset mortgage be affected? I am offsetting 36k against my mortgage of 36k and I will make no monthly repayments as…

Hello. I have trawled through the posts as I know this has been asked before, but I can't find the answer. I have a 17 year endowment policy with standard life which I bought in 1993 and it matures in November 2010...3 years time. It was initially bought to pay off the interest only side of my mortgage which was £54,510. However SL told me there would be at least a £10,000 shortfall...oh goodeee!! Mortgage quandry
I've just had a letter in from Northern Rock stating my 5 year fixed interest rate deal will end in December. The rate will then switch to their standard variable rate and in doing so will jump about £150 per month. Had I still been in full time employment I would simply get another deal from NR or somewhere else, but I…

What does "no fees" mean for a remortgage?
I've just switched from YBS to a base+0.04% with Co-op. This was advertized as a "no fees" mortgage. Having just completed, my summary statement from the CoOP nominated solicitor shows Bank Charge 30.00 +5.25 VAT Land registration fees 30.00 + 0.00 VAT Now given the saving I'm making that's well worth it, and the process…

When do mortgage repayments start?
So, as I understand it once the property has been valued ok the mortgage company will go ahead and give me a mortgage offer. I then take their offer, complete the purchase, sign contracts etc. At what point does the mortgage actually start though, and when would the first payment be due? I put down a preference on my…

What type of mortgage?
I'm afraid we're not very knowledgeable about mortgages. We paid off our mortgage early this year ( and managed to get the exit fee back :j ). We have decided we would like to buy a small property now for our retirement in about 5 years time at which point we would sell our current home and pay off the mortgage. The area…

Mortgage broker feedback
Hi I am about to remortgage and met recently with AWD Home Finance - their proposition for a one off fee (to be advised but no more than 1.95% or about £3000 if I recall correct whichever is the lower) they will bring more competitive mortgages than I can source direct. The fee is a one off fee for life so if I go for a…
