When two years isn't two years...
Hello, I was just wondering how common this problem is. We moved last year and took out a 2 year fixed rate discount with the Halifax - mainly because our current mortgage was with the Halifax and there was a fairly hefty penalty for switching that they were prepared to waive. Anyway, we sorted the mortage out in March and…

Shared Appreciation Loans!
Does anyone know anything about Shared apprecation loans? My grandad died 2 years ago, and my gran is sorting out paperwork etc. About 7 years ago they took out a shared appreciation loan with Barclays, these apparently were only available for a short time and it seems that pensioners were targeted with these. Basically,…

I have an endowment but have recently re-mortgaged to an interest only mortgage. The problem is the endowment has'nt been paid for about 3 years. I need to know the best way to go about this, either, cash in with penalties, leaving me around £500. or pay back the payments and get the full amount when due. Will the company…

Winterthur WP endowment - yet again!
Hi Can anyone help? I've been a regular 'lurker' on the financial threads out of general interest but something recently came up which almost answered a question which affects me directly, so I've registered specifically to put this question. My wife and I took out a Colonial Mutual joint endowment in the early 80s. We…

Company making me increase my endowment premium
I'm new to this forum but I really need some good advice. In 1992 I took out an endowment policy with the Guardian Royal Exchange to repay £18000 when the mortgage matures in 2013. The policy was in joint names with my wife and the monthly amount was £39.48. In 1997 I divorced my wife and as part of the court agreement I…

Early repayment charges for me and I want to buy a new house with my partner
I bought my flat almost 3 years ago and have a 3 year fixed mortgage. My partner ( soon to be wife) hates my flat and wants us to buy a house together. She owns a buy to let property but doesn't need to sell as she has savings to match the equity in my flat. The flat is up for sale but I've just found out that I'm tied…

Woolwich Lifetime Tracker - application experience?
Hi, I posted recently asking if there was such a thing as a mortgage with no tie ins and no up front fees. I got lots of useful replies, and as a result I have narrowed it down and now need to choose between 2 products. ING Direct - this is variable rate, currently 5.64% Woolwich Lifetime Tracker - this is a tracker,…

Bad at maths! Interest question
If I take out a repayment mortgage of £130,000 at 6% over 25 years the monthly repayment with be £837. But can you tell me how to work out what portion of that monthly payment will be interest. It's probably obvious, but my maths is failing me :-) Many thanks Jason

Warning! Cost of fixed rates to soar
No wonder Halifax withdrew the 4.99% I was looking at. Won't see the likes of that for a few years... 1 yr swap now at a ball-busting 6.16%!! http://www.swap-rates.com/UKSwap.html

The situation is that i'm with HSBC and by stopping with them I can get a straight switch onto a new fixed rate without any fees at all.
