I have an offset mortgage with first direct but now my partner and I would like to move up and buy a house in joint names. As I do not want to sell my house but rent it, I called FD to see if I could get a mortgage for the new house (125k) but they told me that unless I sell the house they wont be able to lend me that amount as they will always take into consideration that i have an oustanding mortgage for £55k, even if I remortgage it as a BTL. I was so upset as I do not want to sell my house. I tried a broker and they said that I could even get a mortgage for £170k after I change my offset to BTL for £65K. I am new at this and whilst I am happy the broker has helped us , I am not happy with the mortgage they found us. I would like to try other options but I am worried that we wont be able to get pass the first hurdle. The broker found us a BTL mortgage and wants us to sign the paperwork before we can go ahead with the other mortgage....I do not know how to believe...how does it work when I am trying to get a mortgage for a new house...it seems so easy for other people...what am i missing here?
