Overpayment into a stocks and shares ISA.
My dad has paid his full cash isa of £5100 (hes over 50) into a building society 2 year bond. A week later he bed and ISA'd £5000 of stock into his Hargreaves Lansdown account. But in the process of doing this, it gained £160 in value, going £60 above his £5100 limit. So his total ISA for the year is £10,260. H-L not…

Halifax ISA transfer: Did they receive my transfer form?
Hi, I sent the ISA transfer form to the Halifax transfer team (The Formby Team) in Manchester on 12 March. I haven´t heard anything from them in terms of "We received your form" and normally wouldn´t worry at all after 2 weeks. However, since 2 other letters I posted at the same time never arrived, I would like to make…

Question About ISA's
Hi. I'm 18 and don't really understand something about ISA's, that I hope someone can clear up. Most ISA's I see advertised by banks are advertised as "Tax-free ISA's". What I don't understand is, why 'tax free'? None of my other accounts (current accounts) are 'taxed' that I know of. Obviously my salary gets taxed, but…

adding to an existing ISA?
Hi, This might sound like a dumb question, but say you have a full cash ISA with the maximum allowance (£3600) for the year. When it comes to the 6th April, can I contribute another 3600 to the existing ISA Account or do I have to open another ISA with another institution? Thanks!

Newb ISA question sorry!
Hey guys & girls, Ok I am a newb to all this, so back in 2008/2009 I opened an E-ISA with my current bank provider HSBC and I slapped in the full lot at that time. Ever since I have letting it sit and the account has over £3450 in it. Now my question is as there are only a few days remaining can I transfer this amount and…

Investec Kick-Out Deposit Plan 11
My IFA has advised putting my 2010/11 cash ISA into the Investec FTSE 100 Kick-Out Deposit Plan 11. I am happy to tie up the investment for potentially 5 years. I know that after 5 years I could risk a nil return but your capital is guaranteed, taking into account inflation. Does anyone think this is worth the risk for the…

Thicko ISA question
I know there is a limit as to how much you can put in an ISA p.a. Is it the case that if you put the max amount in an ISA every year - the ENTIRE amount always pays tax-free interest? So someone who has put £3600 in a cash ISA in each of the past 10 years now has £36000 (ex accumulated interest),all of which pays out…

St. James Bank: bad ISA rates?
Hello all This is a bit of a moral dilemma. My elderly neighbour has savings (i don't like to ask how much), and very proudly told us his financial advisor is moving them into a great rate ISA at over 7% at the above bank. However, he also says he doesn't understand finances, and leaves everything to his FA to sort out,…

I am a student on a placement year - I'm looking to save around £250 a month for the last 6 months of my placement (starting this month) then reduce this when I go back to uni. The variety of savings accounts on offer is very overwhelming! How will I be able to save the most? Should I start with a regular savings account…

Newbie Question On Interest
As it is the end of the 09/10 tax year. If I opened an ISA today with say £1,000 at 3.5%. Does that mean I would be paid interest of £35 on April 5th, even though I've only had it open for 11 days ish?! Or does it need the 12 months to accumulate somehow?

Will ISA rates get worse after the ISA season?
For the tax year 2010/2011 myself and my wife will be saving around £10,000. Therefore the ISA allowance is enough to cover us so I am not particularly worried about using the 09/10 allowance. However. I have been looking at the Santander 3.5% Flexible Cash deal. Do the rates on ISA's generally get worse once you come out…

Hi there, I'm looking for some advice on ISAs please....my boyfriend has £6,500 sitting in a normal Halifax Savings Account and I wondered if it would be worth his while to shift this money to an ISA before the end of the tax year, obviously staying within the limits you are allowed for an ISA? The money wont be in the…
