We live in a flat where the neighbour below smokes cannabis directly below our bedroom. Would an air purifier remove the smell from our bedroom?

My wife was at home when the oil delivery man arrived and started putting oil in the tank. We had prepaid for 500 litres. She wasn’t paying much…

Drinking water after water softener installation.
Hello - I am considering installing a water softener in my house. But as I have toddler, I have been advised that it's best to either separate a hard water feed into a drinking tap for drinking water or install a reverse osmosis and remineralise water purification system for drinking water. But I was wondering if the…

Replacing a uPVC door multipoint gearbox - any experience?
I have a FUHR door lock mechanism which needs replacing as the main bolt/latch won't budge (and it's not a problem with the Euro cylinder). I'm wary of doing this myself but it looks fairly simple on some youtube videos I've watched. Calling in a locksmith would cost the earth. Has anyone done this?

Carpet Stain
I have a stain on the carpet that I thought was pink candle wax. Unfortunately it was caused by someone I'm no longer in touch with, so can't get more info on how it happened. It feels rough to the touch but the method I found online of removing candle wax stains had no effect. The method I used was warm iron over kitchen…

Can I solder LED lights?
We've a set of solar powered LED fairy lights, but the thin wire had broken half way along, meaning 25ft of the lights do not work. If you touch the break together, it works again. Can the break be soldered, or any other kind of fix? The 2 ends need to be touched 'face to face' to make the circuit, rather than just joining…

Preventing weeds growing on block paving
As above, we spend a whole day de-weeding the block paved driveway, and it looked perfect. Now, 3 or 4 weeks later, huge weeds growing up randomly (look like dandelion type weeds, without the heads) but they grow in small isolated areas, but within 3 or 4 weeks, each one is the size of a lettuce! :( Any ideas what i…

Paving question??
In 2016, I had a patio done in the back garden, nothing special Indian stone imitation slabs basically. When they were first put down, the pointing was starting to crack and come out. It was the brush in resin style pointing they used. I also noticed some paving slabs were loose. When i got the builder back, he said he…

Howdens quote
I was just sent my quote for a new Howdens kitchen (copied below). There are no line item discounts showing and the total cost is £5046 (inc VAT) - which is not including work surfaces, appliances and is pretty much just cupboards, doors and a few accessories. Presumably this means my fitter is not inclined to pass on any…

Replacing kitchen units but use existing worktop
Our kitchen units are original installed by the builder, circa 1988. We had the work surfaces replaced, 10 or so years ago and it is still in reasonable nick. Due to a long term (but only recently discovered) leak under the sink, there has been a collapse of the shelf. The units themselves are extremely tired and dated.…

Which tradesmen do I need for this?
I have damp and the plumber took off the bath panel to have a look and said the wall was damp and needs replaced! I'm not sure who to call plasterer/joiner/builder? I'm not very good at dealing with things like this.

Driveway Prices
Due to increasing difficulty in parking our cars outside our house we have decided the best option is to convert the front garden into a driveway and then get the kerb cut out by the council. Yesterday we had Crystal Windows over for a quote for our double glazing and they advised us that they now do paveways. He mentioned…

Toilet Seat Fittings/Replacement
Hello everyone, good evening. I've not had any luck so far browsing this topic so thought I'd ask. One of my fittings on my back to the wall toilet came loose, and the nut fell off - it was a bottom fixing inside the pan. Unfortunately, the pipes in the back are too tight to replace the nut, which has now rolled out of…
