Boiler Advice
We were planning to replace our boiler in our kitchen, but the plumber has now said that it will not fit in our new design. So it's going in the loft, and as there is more space, he is recommending a combi boiler, and getting rid of our emersion tank. 1. Any thoughts on combi's - never had one. 2. Choices are Worcester…

Can't find dedicated kitchen fitter - will a joiner be okay?
Hi, I'm looking to get a new kitchen, and have been to B & Q to meet a designer and quite happy with their products. However, they don't fit the kitchens themselves and just directed me to a trades website to find a fitter. The nearest dedicated fitter on the website is 3 hours away (I live in the Highlands). I've searched…

Can I open up an historic driveway without planning permission?
Hi. We've just been turned down by the Council to put in a new safer, access into our property (we currently have a shared driveway scenario with our neighbour which isn't ideal). Our property was part of a working farm years ago and we have photos showing that there was in fact another access to the property from the…

Would you expect a discount.?
Long story, will try to keep it short. We moved to an old bungalow in 1999. In 2000 had a conservatory built and an extension to the kitchen, both with polycarbonate roofs. In 2018 both began to leak. March 2019 after getting several prices, paid a deposit and booked dates for work to commence on June 24th. At each visit…

How to remove building work dust?
Came back from holiday last week after builders had been in whilst we were away (various jobs, such as a total rewire of the house). Over a week later, we're still waking up with sore throats and coughing regularly due to the dust. We've wiped down every surface possible, wiped down windows and frames (curtains weren't…

Doubts about replacing yard gully with soil stack
Hi all. My family owns a ground floor maisonette. Our upstairs neighbour (the freeholder) is installing a new soil stack at the side of the property, between our kitchen and bedroom windows, to service his new first floor shower room. It would join the sewage pipe that runs underneath the shared driveway that runs the…

Negotiating discount with plumber.
Any advice on how much discount to ask for from plumber doing shoddy work? His quote was higher than other plumbers who quoted but they were jack of all trades whereas he sub contracts in the separate tradesmen which we liked as we have found jack of all trades sometimes are not great with things like electrics, etc. He…

Oil diffusers
Unsure if I am in the correct area so apologies! Has anyone got an oil diffuser? I am specifically looking at Tenswall 400ml Wood Grain Essential Oil Diffusers on amazon (only because of reviews on Amazon) . It has good reviews but I don’t know anyone who actually uses one. Are they any good? I’m thinking of putting a bit…

We had our bedroom painted last month using Crown Breatheasy Paint (colour=English Fire). It was new, purchased from Homebase. 17m2 Patio Price
Hi all, I have recently been quoted £600 for labour for a patio that measures 17m. That's just labour, then on top I have £220 for waste removal, whackerplate hire and materials without the flags. Then I have to spend £520 for the flags. That's a total of £1340 for a patio. Is that too expensive?

Builders Retention

Boiler woes
We've got a Worcester 24CDI combi boiler, it was here when we moved in 18 years ago. In the last 6 months its started playing up, only a bit, its still working very well. The problem is every now and again it stops working, and we need to press the reset button on the front. Its not a huge problem, except in the winter it…

How to adjust UPVC door hinges?
