17m2 Patio Price

Options
Hi all, I have recently been quoted £600 for labour for a patio that measures 17m. That's just labour, then on top I have £220 for waste removal, whackerplate hire and materials without the flags. Then I have to spend £520 for the flags.

That's a total of £1340 for a patio. Is that too expensive?

I agree. £220 for whacker, skip and materials sounds way too low. Where I am, a skip would cost that much. Depends on what's being removed.

The spec for the site prep is important, so get it in writing. I'd say 100mm minimum of compacted material, though I think we did 150mm.....can't recall exactly, and it depends on the sub-soil.

None of us can guess the quality of the slabs being used, and prices there vary enormously.

Sounds way too low. Accepting that the OP has provided the slabs, £220 for all the other costs, excluding actual labour is unrealistic. I would be deeply worried about what's going to happen to the waste.

What were the flagstones made of please?

I'm asking because one of these fine days I'm hoping to have the money to rip up some tatty cheap old concrete paving stones and replace them with something decent (like sandstone or porcelain).

No idea what the paving stones were made of.
    Sorry.
Sounded a lot of money to me, but it was a 'proper' job by the look of it.

I'm just in the process of doing my patio, £200 for sub base, £600 for slabs, £100 for mortar, £35 for wacker hire and £40 for cement mixer hire and lots of hours of labour - 20m square.

I would say it sounds too cheap.
