Icky paint, non-toxic removal?
Hi there, I need to get about 10 layers of old gloss paint off my door frames so I can re-paint the, properly. The previous owners seem to have just slapped layer after layer on there and it looks awful! I can't use any chemicals like Nitromorse as I have pets that will just rub against it - far too dangerous for them. Am…

Mouldy smell coming from underneath bathtub
I've recently bought and moved into a flat and I've noticed the bathroom sometimes has a mouldy/mildewy smell which has gotten worse recently (possibly due to the heat?). I've finally narrowed down the source of the smell and it seems to be coming from underneath the bathtub. Does anyone know possible causes, maybe a leak…

Contractor hasn't finished job
Not sure if this is the 'right' forum to post this query. Having had a flat dormer roof spring a leak we engaged a local roofer to repair it ('local' in this instance being the son of a neighbour). He and his team did an acceptable job of the roof. New flashing round the dormer, a fibreglass covering to replace the old…

Sagging driveway gates
We have two swing steel gates at the driveway entrance. One has sagged a little, making the gates difficult to close easily. Does anyone know what type of trade would fix sagging driveway gates? I've called a couple of gate companies but they only manufacture and install brand new gates.

Discouraging vandals
Hi, We live on the corner of a council estate where two main roads join and there is a pub just round the corner. Our fence fairly frequently gets the odd hole kicked in on it overnight, most likely from drunks coming home from the pub. A few weeks ago we heard an argument and a crash- I think a guy pushed his girlfriend…

Cleaning flagstones and paths
Hi, Does anyone have an recommendations for cleaning flagstones and concrete paths? Ours have a little bit of grime building up on them (probably soot from car exhaust fumes settling on them) but I've just finished sorting the garden and I think giving these a good clean will just finish the garden nicely. I've heard the…

Is it safe to leave a Saniflo switched off?
Hi all, I have a question about Saniflo. Ours has started leaking due to a crack. Had to get an emergency plumber out today (Ouch :/ ) He has switched it off and stopped the leak, so it cannot be used at the mo. It's not our main toilet, so that's fine. He said a new one would be £550 fitted - which I just can't afford.…
