Fitting a new bath
Good Evening, Just after a couple of pointers from personal experience. Bathroom is just an empty shell at the minute with the bath ready to go in over the next few days so the tiler can be arranged to come out and do the floor / walls. The bath came with brackets to help secure it to the wall, i'm sure these are enough…

Issues with cleaner - opinions wanted!
4 weeks ago I employed a cleaner who did a great job first time, no issues at all. On the 2nd week she cancelled saying her friend's car had broken down and she was stuck there with her (she doesn't drive) so the day had to be rearranged. That time the clean wasn't as thorough and she didn't clean the shower at all. 3rd…

Outside electric meter becoming inside because of porch
Hi I am planning on building a porch. Our electric meter is outside and the porch will cover it meaning it will then be inside. Is this OK or is there a reason it should be outside? The porch does not have planning as it is within permitted development Thanks

Structural wall DIY
Hi all, I've finally exchanged on my house and complete late next month (let the budget DIY commence) Basically, the kitchen is pretty small and the plan is to knock down the supporting wall between the kitchen and the lounge. Ive had a couple of quotes and just feel like the labour for a reasonably simple job is too high…

Clean floor before laying new carpet?
Having just spent the best part of a day using my trusty new Titan vacuum to clear up after rewiring, I am pretty surprised just how much dust, grit, gravel, etc.,were on the floorboards and between the floorboards when the carpets were removed in my new house. Some of that was plaster chunks and dust generated by the…

Painting 'cardboard' wall
Hello! We're redecorating our entrance hall and while removing the wallpaper off one of the walls we noticed that it was some sort of cardboard instead of plaster. The idea is to paint this wall but I'm not sure how I'm going to do that now. Should I plaster it first (not sure if it's possible because of said cardboard)?…

I think my neighbour's new extension is going to overhang the boundary.
Our neighbour is having a new one storey extension built at the back of his house. The plans showed he would be well withing his boundary so we didn't object. Now they have put on the wood structure for the roof, I think his slanted roof will definitely overhang. I'm also concerned there will be no room for a gutter and…

Green disposal
....of tree branches. How is it done? It's something I should have given some thought to before I started hacking away! The branches are too big to get into the car, so I can't take them to the tip. They're not suitable for firewood because I cannot heart on hand say that they are completely dry. Unlike grass clippings and…

Sequence of refurbishment and estimated costs in London
We are close to exchanging on a 1930s 3 bed house (London zone 5) which is in need of modernisation. We are planning to get the following 6 changes done as soon as possible but worried about the order in which we should sequence and rough estimates of time and money for each job assuming it would be done by tradesmen: a.…

Boiler and bathroom upgrade
Hi folks, new poster. I've decided (finally) to upgrade my boiler and bathroom. I'm going from a 1980s workhorse boiler + hot tank to a Combi.
