Repairing torn floor?
Is there any way that tears in vinyl flooring can be repaired? I was moving furniture in my kitchen and it looks like something must have caught on the vinyl and ever so slightly torn it. The tear is tiny, about the size of a 50 pence piece, and if I press it back in to place it doesn't look too bad as the floor has a…

Moving a Toilet Window
I am planning to move a downstairs toilet and hence move the toilet window further along the side wall (gable end) of the house. It is a single opening frosted window (recent UPVC replacement). I am moving it about 1.3 meter and bricking up the old position, so not an additional window, but re-position of the existing…

Treating doors, skirting & stairs - paint & the like?
I'll go with the skirting & stairs first off. We were going to strip the whole lot but this is becoming a task & a half so we may just sand the rest down ready for painting. We're taking chunks/strips out of the wood even by being careful when stripping. The Mrs said she wanted them done in gloss white - something with a…

Boiler help
As I type this I am being serenaded by our boiler - kettling so loud it wakes us up in the morning. It also goes through spells of not reigniting to boost temp when needed so we have to manually ignite it with the knob. Boiler is an Ideal Minimiser SE installed in 2001 by BG. We have put in anti noise liquid for a second…

party wall agreement
About to build an extension within 3m of neighbours. We get on well and they know what we're doing and have no objections. Is it OK to not bother serving a party Wall notice? Is it just an agreement between neighbours or is there a legal obligation to have this? and will building control or our builders want to know…

Washer dryer, damaged floor?
So I've got someone coming to fix my washer dryer today and have pulled it out from under the work top ready and noticed a large round grey patch under the machine, any idea what this could be? Central heating radiator mystery
This one has me baffled, quite frankly. One of my radiators is really doing my nut in! When I start up the boiler, ALL the radiators warm up nicely and get hot. Although the problematic one stays hot for about an hour or two, it then settles itself down to just a lukewarm position. I faffed around with the TRV (turning it…
