hive heating worth the cash?

Options
timers gone kaput on my Worcester bosch boiler and rather than buying a new timer and paying for someone to install it could it be worth getting a hive system installed?

Anyone used this system?

cheers

  • I've got the first generation one british gas released (doesn't have the hot water control but as I have a combi it doesn't bother me), it's a great piece of kit. Really is. Wife and I work different hours which can change ona. Daily basis so a timer isn't great for us , with this we just turn on the heating before we leave for home and when we get in its nice and warm,

I can't stand the adverts for it on tv so that's enough to put me off it.
  • I had been looking for a phone controlled heating upgrade for a while and nice people on here recommend Owl http://www.theowl.com/products/intuitionc.php which I liked the look of, however a colleague has the Hive and he mentioned it to me.

I am now booked in for it to be installed next week and I was more sold on the combined installation and support package that it comes with as opposed to buying a standalone system, then getting an engineer to install it to the boiler then having to set it up with the risks of it not working etc. I am sure it wouldn’t have been that difficult, but I want this to just work out of the box and be simple to control.

Ps don't have a tv licence so don't see any annoying adverts.

you can see them on catch up.

More generally, the reputation BG have with their homecare product plus the saturation advertising would make me think twice
  • I had mine installed on Friday after the engineer was running very late on Thursday and I had to cancel the appointment.

Nice guy turned up, quick installation took place and he ran me through everything. The app is simple to use and so is the website. Obviously only had it for the weekend so far but it seems to be pretty good.
  • Is there an annual fee for this service?

No it is just the one of cost of £199. Whether that changes at some stage who knows.
