Landlords & Agents charges for tenant credit check
Last year we rented a flat for our student daughter. The agent charged £75 for a credit check which seems extorionate. She moved out over the summer and now has to get another flat. I think we are going to have to fork out for a credit check once again. Ouch. Has anyone ever tried to negotiate a cheaper rate on a credit…

EA - can they sue for slander?
A friend of mine recently had her house on the market through an EA. She sold her house privately (the EA admitted they had no claim on any fee) but she slagged off her EA to the buyer in emails and texts during the buying process. After the sale went through, the buyer has gone to the EA and shown them the emails and…

Is it buyer beware?
Just got the home buyers survey back for the flat I'm purchasing. There are 4 red flagged items. One is the replacement of guttering which I'll have to contact the property management agent about. The other 3 relate to the electricity, gas and heating system. These are flagged as red due to no current test certificates…

Do i need a survey on a flat?
Hi, I have had an offer accepted on a flat. Do I need a survey? I mean, if I was buying a house I would get a survey, but how does that work on a flat? Any advice would be appreciated.:) The top floor flat is in a purpose-built block (and was built in the 1970s I think). The seller, who I know and trust, informs me that…

House on the market since March... keep trying or rent out?
Hello I wonder if I can get some advice. Our house has been on the market since 1 March and we thought (hoped) it would sell quickly. It's a 2 up, 2 down in a nice area, done up nicely (neutral colours, modern decor), good sized garden - backs onto the railway line which puts some people off but we and our neighbours are…

no sale no fee
How common are no sale no fee conveyancers/solicitors? and if a sale falls through do they charge nothing at all or only for the fees incurred up to that point(eg search fees). I can see them waiving their own fees but can't imagine that they would not charge for anything they have already forked out on.

end of tenancy dispute
Ah, that old chestnut... first of, let me thank anyone who takes the time to read this (first post and all), and let me assure you that i've had a thorough read of various threads that appear to relate to my situation, and am seeking opinions more than advice. I recently ended an 8 year unbroken tenancy, and have been…
