EA - can they sue for slander?

A friend of mine recently had her house on the market through an EA. She sold her house privately (the EA admitted they had no claim on any fee) but she slagged off her EA to the buyer in emails and texts during the buying process. After the sale went through, the buyer has gone to the EA and shown them the emails and texts (they said nothing more damning than the fact that they had been pretty hopeless and, at times, rude).
The EA has now sent my friend a letter saying that they are obtaining legal advice due to the negative impression caused by her actions.
In reality, where can this go?

Providing your friend said/wrote nothing untrue, the EA can do absolutely nothing.
None of my business, but why on earth did the buyer show private communications to the EA?0
