Buying flat upstairs to let (initially) - a good idea in north London right now?
I would really welcome views about this. The house is a 1900s terrace house with four floors. We have the ground floor/garden flat and the rest of the house (splitinto 3 flats) is owned by 3 siblings. They plan to sell off the rest of the flats over the next few (tax) years and are about to put the flat above us on the…

Letting Agency Renewal Fee
Hi We're about to renew our tenancy as we really like the flat and would like to ensure that we're living there for at least another year before possibly buying our own place. However, the letting agency want to charge us £50 + VAT for the renewal "admin fee", which is esentially just checking with the landlord that…

Should an Estate Agent market a house they know is not worth the asking price?
We've all seen houses on the market where we think 'surely it's not worth that'. In my few short weeks as an EA I have noticed that more often than not it is the vendor insisting we put it on 'as that's what it's worth'. I'm not suggesting either that there aren't EA's who don't give a higher valuation in order to secure…

Views on the buyer using the same solicitor as the vendor - good idea?
Hi all, As a FTB, I've been looking at the solicitor options (local, online, etc). One of my friends suggested asking the vendor who they are using and go with the same people - it should speed up the process and may even be cheaper. Has anyone done this, or have any views?

We have been told that if you set us a company then you have to incur the cost of annual returns to Companies House. Is there an alternative method? Thanks for…

What would be a reasonable offer?
Hi, I have seen a nice 2-bed flat, which was originally priced at £180 k. After 2 months on the market they have dropped the price to £170k. I understand from the agent that the vendor is keen to sell and that they have had not much interest from buyers as the flat needs some work to be done. It needs a new kitchen,…
