It is, but you'll find it doesn't really offer any discount from the online HIP providers.
I DIY'd back in 2008 and the total cost was £230. I bought one last year from https://www.hips4u.com and it cost something like £208 including the VAT. The online one did not have 'official' searches but it isn't a legal requirement and the 'official' search from my DIY one ended up pretty much out of date anyway.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Although understandably I am not a fan of HIP companies, Doozergirl does have a point. They generally get volume discounts from search companies and that's how they can do it cheaply. If the property is in an area where the official local searches are very cheap (e.g Portsmouth : £50) you might do it yourself more cheaply, otherwise you will be struggling, because a lot of official Council searches will cost £130-£200 or more on their own, so you have that cost plus the Water search and the EPC and the Land Registry copy entries.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0
