Solicitor Negligence? Nobody told me they were going to build a bridge...
I am going to seek legal advice, but thought I'd see what the chaps here thought about the situation. So I bought a house September last year, in a quiet residential area. I specifically moved from a noisy inner city street to a small suburb of Edinburgh, with green field views from my window. Now I was very happy with my…

Worried about condition of wood floor of rented flat
Hello. Can I get some advice? I rent a flat with my partner and toddler. The flat has a parquet wood floor that is very soft and unsealed. This means that if they get wet they stain easily which is impossible to get out, even if I wipe up straight away. They also get dented and scratched easily. Having a child means that I…

How to start with construction of my dream house?
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good resource to find contractors? I have been looking online and all I have seen are sites where you have to describe the job then wait to get called from a contractor or if I find a directory type of site there is a limited number of contractors in my area, but I know there are many…

Should I buy or stay put for now? Help please!
Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a dilemma and would be interested to get people's opinions before I make a decision. My current situation is that I own half of a property worth £160,000 with a £60,000 mortgage (ie. £20,000 equity). My sister and I bought this house from my mother as she was struggling to keep paying her…

High EA fees when selling
Just had our first valuation on our property last night. I wasn't there for it, but my fiancee saw the ea. Firstly, the fees were fixed at £2300  (payable on completion) Secondly, she reckoned our property could be put on the market at 105-110K (but we couldn't expect to achieve this) So from this, I have the…

I live in a rented flat and my landlord lives in the flat (servants quarters) above me. He's a retired engineer and it's great whenever something breaks or needs doing because he's always happy to fix things. However, he wanted to come and do the annual gas safety check but gave me less than 12 hours notice, I said that…

What does STMS mean?
I can't find a definition anywhere of what STMS means, anyone on here know? It appears on numerous estate agent details after the acreage so it will say for example "land extends to 9 acres (STMS)". I'm assuming it is "Subject To ..." but subject to what?

is it usual for motgage companies to withhold money before completion?
had survey done around christmas on a possible house purchase. The mortgage wanted to withhold £5000 until certain work was done. In the end we pulled out due to the nature of the work involved. Now waiting to hear about a second mortgage application, and although I don't know the details, they have done the same, withheld…
