Just heard our illustrious leader, GB on the radio saying he is going to put in place measures to help, not only those struggling in the wake of the "credit crunch" who are finding it hard to remortgage, but also those FTB trying to get on the ladder. Anyone any ideas what they may be as apart from give everyone enough…

Landlord Prosecution Story
Yesterday a colleague of mine prosecuted a landlord who had failed to licence his licensable HMO. He pleaded guilty and was fined two and a half grand, plus various costs and of course he still has to get his licence or face being taken to court again. That's probably not a great big deal to him, although the fact that he…

Should they bother with a survey?
Well my parents have now had an offer accepted on a property. They are now thinking along the lines of type of survey. It is a bungalow in immaculate condition, they are buying it cash so no mortgage involved, Dad is very DIY experienced and really cannot see the point of being told for eg that the big trees in the garden…

Require confirmation on costs
Hi there, as you can see I'm new to the forums after a long time of hanging around :p Me and my girlfriend of 3 years (we are both just turned 20) are looking into renting unfurnished in a few months time. We are looking at the 'executive apartment' style renting, if that means anything to you, something along these lines.…

Estate Agent - 1.5% + VAT Fees and 12 week tie in !!!
We are using a Local estate agent (by far the biggest....anecdotal evidence would suggest 50% of all boards are this estate agent) who has fees of 1.5% plus VAT and we are tied in for 12 weeks! This sounds a little steep to me. I did not sign the estate agent contract - my flat mate (joint owner) was responsible for that.…

Is it ok to call LL to ask what his plans regarding Lease are?

Re-Mortgage from Repayment to Interest Only
Good Afternoon Peeps, I have a one bedroom flat on a fixed rate repayment mortgage at 4.something% that comes to an end at the end of the year and then the rate goes up to 7% odd at least. I know I was a very lucky bunny to get the 4.x% rate 18 months ago in the first place! I had intended to live in the flat - I bought it…

Another "about to exchange" thread
We are FTBs, buying a flat. My OH's parents contributing a quarter of the purchase price towards deposit (no interest and we do not have to repay it until we feel comfortable to do so). We knocked down 10% of the asking price (but we think it was overpriced anyway, by about 5%) and further 3% after we received the survey…

Highlighting the Problem of Lettings Agencies' "Admin" Fees
There seem to be so many posts on here about problems with Letting Agents that I thought it may be worth highlighting a post that got a bit buried in another thread: The Government is of course currently looking at all aspects of the private rented sector so if you want to highlight this particular area of L & T…

Midway through a purchase
I'm a first time buyer, but have a substantial deposit, and have been planning to buy a large place, letting out a couple of rooms. I put an offer in on a place about a month ago, got 5% off the price they were asking for in December, and have got the mortgage straightened out. The house is in Seven Sisters in London, and…
