Selling - When can we put an offer in?
We have just put out first home on the market. We are a bit reluctant to go and see potential new homes until we have an offer on our old home. Is this the right thing to do or should we be looking at other houses now? Would we be able to put an offer on a house if we found one without having an offer on our house?

What are the implications of shared ownership
When looking at the housing market there has been several properties which have been advertised as shared ownership with 25%-50% owned by a housing association or the like and has been seen as a way to get people onto the property ladder - but i'm just wondering what are the implications with this method of purchasing?

HIPS avoidance
I have a 2 bedroom flat on the market for private sale (no agent). It has already had my board up for three weeks. As I understand it, the rules regarding HIPS for this type of property don't come in until the middle of this month. Can I assume that any sale after that date does not require a HIPS package? If so, how do I…

We are in the process of buying a new house in a development of 100 - (Scotland). We received the missives today for signing and noted that an addition to the missives stated that not more than one dog and or cat was permissable. We approached the sales development staff with this and were told that they thought that this…

forged signature
Hypothetically now.. if when you sign a lease contract, and the person who isn't the LL signs the contract in the LL's name... is it valid?? ie, husband signs the wifes name as the person stated on the contract as the LL is the wife.

solicitors fees and hips (reduction?)
hello don't know if this has been asked before but as the hips now provide us with some things the solicitor would previously do, does this mean solicitors fees are reduced accordingly? (for the buyer) i know these are disbursments but surely the legwork for this was factored in previously, (or should i say time on the…

I have been renting my current house for just under 6 months, at the time we moved in we were told (by the letting agent) that the house was ours for a minimum of 6months and after 3 months they would contact us to see if we wanted to either extend it by another 6months of if we wanted to keep it on a monthly basis after…

Home Information Pack- HIP's
My 3 bed house has been on the market for a year now, continuously so no HIP required as yet. My estate agent says I will require a HIP after 1 Jan08 anyway....... I think he is confusing it with the rule that all homes marketed as from then need one - anyone know the answer for sure? Thanks. Al.

Hi All, We recently saw a ground floor flat and are interested in buying it. Checked out the land registry website to find the prices. I see that the current owner purchased the property for £177500 in 2005 and now they are selling for offers over £172000. I understand that the house prices have gone down. But finding it…

Upfront deposit - the only way to test a buyer's bona fides?
Have sellers on here found that asking for a reasonable-size, upfront, non-returnable deposit has sorted out the genuine buyers from the hedging-their-bets types? I have even heard of one seller who charged a fiver for each viewing and found that this neatly disposed of the 'just nosey' gawkers. Any experience in this area…
