Self-employed - do I need accountant for self-cert?
I'm coming up to three years of self-employment and I'm starting to think about buying a cupboard-sized flat somewhere. I do my own accounts as they're so simple a hippo could prepare them (ie, I get a few cheques each month from different people, no offshore tax havens, nothing remotely complicated). However, I was…

Lying mortgage broker!
Our house sold within two days. The buyer has stalled and stalled all the way through (problems with survey etc). His mortgage broker then told my estate agent that their computers were out of action for a couple of days and that the mortgage offer would not be out until the following week. It now transpires that the buyer…

Another How Much to Offer Thread? (Sorry!)
We'd like to move back to the village we used to live in and have been browsing for the past 18 months or so but the houses are usually too expensive, hence our reason for moving in the first place. A property came onto the market at the beginning of August for £268K, advertised as ‘priced to sell’ and was then reduced a…

Paying off a residential Mortgage....a Myth that needs debunking?
Hi guys, firstly a quick hello as I am new here although do post on another section of the board. I would like to open up a topic on a rather interesting viewpoint regarding residential mortgages. There are those that say you should never repay capital, instead use interest only mortgages. The logic behind this is that…
