Armed Forces landlords - Capital Gains Tax?
My husband and I let our house in Scotland. As he is in the British Army, we live in married quarters accomodation. We bought the property that we let, to get on the property ladder while we could afford it, and to provide us with somewhere to live when he leaves the Army. We don't currently have any intention of selling…

Hello, My girlfriend and I have paid the deposit (5%) on a new build flat in the Southside of Glasgow. The developers are called WestPointHomes (https://www.westpointhomes.net) and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of buying a house from them. They only develop in Scotland so apologies if this is the wrong…

House Purchase - What Type of Survey?
I'm in the process of buying a house and I was wondering what type of syrvey I should go for. The house is only 7 years old and I've had a good look round and there are no signes of any problems such as subsidance of missing bits of roof. Given that a homebuyers report will only report on things that are easily accessable…

My property portfolio: sell/keep & CGT
I had a plan a few years back. It was very short term - 3 years. I am now formulating a long term plan and need help. As well as our own home - which is in my partner's name, I have 3 other properties which I let out. One of the properties is the flat we used to live in before we bought the family home. I understand that I…

Transfer 1/2 share
My partner & I bought a holiday chalet/house in 2001 with a mortgage on the property where we live. It's a long story but the short of it is my partner owes me a substantial amount of money which he has borrowed over the years. Rather than sell the holiday home I would like to get it transferred solely into my name to wipe…

Buying A Second Property
My Wife and I are loosely thinking about buying a second property in a few years time. The idea was to rent out the house we're in now and to move into a bigger house (we've just started a family). The trouble is I haven't a clue what criteria we need in order to get a second mortgage. We're in debt at the moment, have an…

House move on a saturday
I am aware that completion can only take place on a friday but its going to be extremely difficult for me to physically move house on a weekday. Is there anyway that it can be agreed that I can move on a saturday or will this be at the buyers discretion. If so...whats the likelyhood of them agreeing to this?

Can we have a GAS meter moved?
We are buying a new house, but the gas meter is in a very akward position in a kitchen cupboard, and we would like to look to move this maybe under the stairs, so its out the way. I understand we would have to go through our gas supplier/transco to get this done, but has anyone done anything like this and have a rough cost?

How do you raise the 10% deposit required on exchange?
Reading through a couple of things I have got the impression that if I exchange a week prior to completion I will be expected to cough up a 10% deposit. Our deposit is tied up in the equity in the current house, and we are buying a much more expensive property. We do have some savings but not in the 30k region. I have…

My family and I have recently moved into a rented house in scotland and are not happy with the condition/state of the house and are wondering what our rights are. Boundaries
Please can someone point me in the right direction. We moved into a house in November last year. We are responsible for both of our boundary fences. Currently the fence on one side of our house is nailed to the edge of our garage. I can see this has been done out of ease as there is no point in spending out to run a fence…

Do we need to pay tax on property?
Hi, Am looking to buy a property, do it up, & sell it on quickly. However, the mortgage advisor thought that i would have to move into the property for 6 months to avoid paying some sort of tax - is this true? I wasn`t really planning or wanting to do this! Does anyone know about tax implications when buyinga house? Thanks.
