Annual usage for energy company after Solar PV?
Hi all, We had 15 solar panels installed in March and since then our average weekly electric usage has dropped from around 70 kWhs per week to about 30 kWhs per week. Our usage has been pretty consistent since getting solar but my official annual estimate (which I understand is shared between suppliers) is still based off…

Food recycling going missing overnight. Animals?
For about 2 weeks our food recycling has been disappearing overnight, but no mess. The waste is in compostable plastic bags in a black bin with a handle which flips over to "secure" the lid. The whole bag is gone in the morning and their is no spillage of food anywhere. It's just gone. In this weather the waste is pretty…

Government paper calls for 40GW of nuclear by 2050
Leaked government analysis reveals UK demand for new nuclear power plants https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/reforms-in-funding-planned-to-meet-demand-for-nuclear-power-plants-j3n0mln0l Totally unnecessary Electricity is already solved by what we have, what is under construction, and the 30GW of offshore wind we have…

Solar panel advice
We are doing well with our panels. After 3.5 years we have made 30% of the cost in generation payments. So considering we also save on electricity costs I am very happy with the return. Is there any software we can use that can tell us how well we are utilising the electricity we generate ? We have our names down for a gen…

Bulk-buying of micro-bead free handwash
Hi, trying to reduce our usage of plastic containers and also products containing micro-beads. I recognise that soaps are "better" than handwashes but for some applications prefer to use handwashes. Does anyone have any recommendations for handwash which is free of micro-beads and , preferably, can be purchased in bulk?

Plastic Free Money Saving Tips
Hi all, I am new to the forum as I have been looking for further ways to reduce my single use plastic waste, and this forum popped up. So far, I have re-usable cloth and fabric bags, (for shopping, which I do at the market for fruit and veg and bring my own reusable small cloth bags for these), a re-usable ceramic rubber…

Ovo v2g - does it make sense?
Haven't looked at the details but basically ovo pay 6p per stored unit exported on top of the standard unit rate which it obviously cost to charge the battery in the first place. Not sure if there is any option for time of day arbitrage (fill batt using cheap rate, sell back at peak rate) Not sure if you have to be on a…

Packaging Alternatives
Hi, Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Every month we buy shopping for the freezer including some meat. Currently we use ziploc plastic bags for doing this and I want to move away from using this type of product. What are to green alternative for storing items like Mince, and Chicken etc in the freezer? I've…

Solar and eon
Hi, We had solar panels installed in feb. We applied for the fit straight away. Eventually eon got back to us and told us there was something missing on the form (our bank details). We got straight back to them with the missing information. However, we have heard nothing. It’s been months now. I appreciate there’s a back…

Would you share your heating?
Would you share you heating? 30 million buildings with 30 million boilers or 30 million heat pumps seem quite inefficient Could a system be devised whereby the energy company owns and operates a micro distributed heating system Something like a 15 ton hot water tank heated by 5 independent 30KW gas fired boilers (or…

Purchasing a home with Solar Panels
Currently a buyer and looking at purchasing a home with solar panels after researching, I have found out that the panels have been bought outright with invoice paid. I have seen the MCS certificate and is currently with Eon with whom he gets his FIT paid quarterly and there is a Hies Certificate of the original installer.…

How does a '100% renewable' electricity supply work? I'm sceptical.
Recently signed up with So Energy mainly on price and feedback ratings. In passing noticed their renewable electricity pledge. Seems too good to be true. Doesn't one renewable supplier just displace non renewable supplies to another part of the market, leaving nett renewable consumption in the UK the same?

Can 3 million EVs replace 30 million oil cars?
Seems like a ridiculously low number doesn't it? How can 3 million robo EVs replace 30 million human cars in the UK. The basic idea is that the robo EVs do 10 x the average mileage as the human cars so you only need 1/10th as many......But surely there are more than 3 million cars on the road at peak commuter…

Electric Boilers
I have an old gravity fed gas central heating system using a back boiler. So in time, I will be looking to replace this I have been looking at electric boilers what I am wondering can the electric boiler use the same plumbing to the radiators lessening the disruption, or will it need new pipe work. Do any posters have…

Solar ti doe
I fully appreciate that this name has come up in several threads and I have read a great many of them trying to find answers to a few questions. If they've been covered before, my apologies. The issue is .... Project Solar. OK so I know the automatic response, and I'm being very cautious with them. I had a quote last…

Self drive software and half sized EVs
The future of transport is going to be self drive taxi fleets and with self drive the average 'car' can resemble the upper average usage of cars. We will not need 5 seater tesla model 3s with 50-75 KWh battery packs The future will be 2-3 seater self drive EVs that are say 85 cm wide (rather than the 185 cm of a model 3)…

Green recyclable Cups
Hi all, Not quite money saving, yet looking for advice. My local running club hosts a 10K race each year. The club are working hard to make the race as green as possible. Half way round the course we have a water station. Uses circa 400 odd cups for a race up to 650 participants. Last year we moved from plastic cups to…
