Food recycling going missing overnight. Animals?

For about 2 weeks our food recycling has been disappearing overnight, but no mess. The waste is in compostable plastic bags in a black bin with a handle which flips over to "secure" the lid. The whole bag is gone in the morning and their is no spillage of food anywhere. It's just gone. In this weather the waste is pretty much a bacterial soup, so I'm assuming it's an animal of some description. Any ideas?

If it's kerbside on bin day, then I'd say it's probably contractors employed by the local council/environmental services/refuse company to monitor waste & recycling. I have a friend who does it when money is tight (because it's a nasty nasty job) - they chuck it in a van, take it back to the depot and sort it
That said, I understand that the locations chosen within a borough are fairly random, for a borough wide picture of the state of affairs, rather than targeting individual streets or even households
Foxes are pretty adept at opening stuff (just ask anyone with chickens). Is the bin lid left unsecured or secured after a raid ? If the latter then it's more likely human
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0
