Typical household electricity baseload
Using the MSE 40% off offer (the day before the email about the free montitors, doh!) I bought an Owl CM119 which arrived yesterday. After struggling to get it clipped onto the right cable (not much space in my meter cupboard, will have to modify the clip at the weekend with tape / velcro) I've got it up and running. After…

How much do you fill your bin?
It was bin day today, and as I glanced at what was in ours I thought it was quite bad. We have weekly bin collections; with a black bin, and a recycling box for paper, cans and plastics all in one. There's just me, OH and our dog. Normally the recycling box is overflowing and the black bin is half full. How much do you…

Is the Energy Savings Trust Fit for Purpose?
Over recent months the Energy Savings Trust (EST) have: * Changed their minds on how much money can be saved on the average electricity bills by installing Solar PV * Accidentally published the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) changes prior to the Government's official announcement * Continually used over inflated system installation…

Solar PV Prices Slashed After FIT Change
As expected, the recently announced FIT reduction has had the desired effect in slashing the installation costs for Solar PV systems installed after 12th December. Tescos have already announced a 3.84 kWp system for the miserly sum of £8,499 (inc. VAT) and I fully expect prices to drop further next year as competition hots…

Is this a good deal?
Having resigned myself to applying too late and missing the boat I've now been offered a 3.9kwp system, (12 Sunpower 327w panels with a Kaco 4202 inverter) by a reputable supplier (a cancelled order) with a guarantee of fitting and having everything in place before the 9th December deadline for the old FIT. The price is…

Extension To Solar PV
I would like to add another 4 panels to my existing 9 panels. Anybody any idea if this would be treated as a 'new' installation ?? Or would I be able to claim the 43.3p on the total output of 13 panels ??

Philips halogen energy savers 3 for £4 at Sainsburys until 9/11/2011
They have a wide range of sizes, wattages and bases available at my local store. While not quite as energy saving as CFL bulbs, they have their uses (good for dimmer switches or fixtures that only fit small bulbs) and save some energy. They also last about twice as long as regular bulbs according to the packets, but my…

Impact of solar PV on national grid
I have read on this forum, and others many comments along the lines of: "PV will not prevent one drop of oil/coal/gas being burnt at power stations" and "PV doesn't generate electricity when we need it most, between 5-7pm in the winter" I'll start with a question - If I reduce my daytime electricity consumption, does it…

We got the go ahead a few weeks ago that we can have the panels installed for free but need to get the paperwork back by next Tuesday. I have a few questions that maybe someone out there could answer please: Our current mortgage product ends in summer 2013 which is when we will be emigrating (hopefully). My question is…

For anyone who has an installation booked before or getting close to the 12th Dec deadline - I strongly suggest you confirm that the right equipment you have ordered is what is being delivered on the day of installation. Tariff Cut - What it really means
I see that a number of people are welcoming the feed in tariff cut as they see the solar subsidy as being unfair and discriminatory against the poor. But will it make any difference? Let us look at the true impact. 1) The 'free' solar panel option is no longer financially viable for the firms involved so this product will…
