TV energy consumption..?
I remember everyone going mad about the TV being left on "standby" and this causing a big problem, but as TVs get bigger I presumeenergy consumption is going up and up. I am proud of my electricity bill and low carbon-impact. However, I understand that firstly, in some instances, it can take more energy to receive digital…

Save Paper Stop Getting Junk Mail
I just happened to be browsing the Royal Mail Website. They now have a new service, where you can opt out of unaddressed (sp?) mail, (not stuff that has any sort of address on it as they are legally obliged to deliver this). You just have to send an email to optout@royalmail.com I have just done this, and will wait to see…

Low Energy Candle Bulbs
Does anyone know the cheapest place to get low energy bayonet fitting candle-style bulbs? I need 16 - only low wattages though as they are all 2 or 3 bulb fitments (rented house, so can't change them). They do need to be a good light quality though, as I suffer from SAD, and really don't want to aggravate it any more than…

The Ban Beater
Now perhaps not the most MoneySaving purchase ever but The Ban Beater is a good way of re-using water and great for anyone who's living in a hose pipe ban area. The gadget basically utilizes grey water (any water used from around the home) and siphons it off allowing you to use it to wash the car or water the garden.…

Washing Machine Energy Saving
I have just realised that most energy is used by the machine in the SPIN cycle. If the weather is good enough, why not turn off spin and let clothes drip dry outside. I have tried it this week to my satisfaction.

Top Tips for Handling Telemarketers
This came in an email to me. Hope this is useful but not too sure whether this is the right place to post it. Three Little Words That Work ! (1)The three little words are: "Hold On please..." Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so…

What's in your Organic Veg and Fruit Box this week? (Merged)
Thought it might be interesting to compare our Organic Delivery Contents: I think we should say who the supplier is, how much it cost and what was included. It may seem that some are better value than others? So I will start with: I have a Mediteranean-Veg £7.50 and Mini-Fruit Bag £5.00, from Farmaround. Mediteranean Veg…

Natural Cosmetic Ranges
I need to replace my foundation and powder, and I've become concerned with using environmentally friendly products without large numbers of synthetic ingredients. It's easy enough to find toiletries that are suitable, and mostly I use Lush stuff, but it seems much harder to find cosmetics. If possible I'd prefer to avoid…

Sainsburys recycling (Merged Thread)
Just come off the phone with Sainsburys customer services after noticing a note on their organic potatoes that said they will recycle the packaging. They have confirmed they will take back any SO Sainsburys Organic packaging at their larger stores for recycling. There's a little less in the wheelie bin :D

Organic Milk in Cartons or Non-organic in glass bottles??
Hello, I have a dilema - do I go for Organic Milk in Cartons (which I am unable to recycle) or Non-Organic Milk in Bottles (which are recycled up to 12 times apparently) from my milkman. Which is the 'greener' option? I do like having a milkman he is a jolly chap and they are a bit of a dying breed. I personally wish he…

Sick of recycling - should I stop?
I am completely sick of recycling and here's why. My local council only collects paper, glass and cans; I recycle paper, cardboard, glass, cans, plastic, green waste. I am a recycling saint - I recycle everything I can at a cost to me in time and money. My problem is two-fold: 1. I hate saving the things for recycling. I…

Was just thinking about whether to try out some other companies as well, to get a comparison of quality & value for money. At the mo I get their mixed fruit & veg box at £14.80. Any recommendations? Was thinking about…
