The R50 spots are fine, take the usual time to warm up to full light.
I've seen the GU10 spots in a kitchen fitting, a white one, was a very cold and awful light.imho, only suitable lighting for purpose lighting-walkways or a porch maybe, but not for a living or cooking area.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Dear Poppycat,
There are a number of energy saving GU10 lampbase lamps (all just 7W) at http://www.megamanuk.com/. Megaman is a manufacturer not a retailer, but their web site does list online shops. The range is very extensive so I'm sure you'll find what you want.
I'm (slowly) replacing all the old inefficient lamps and bulbs in our house and haven't yet had a problem with 'cold' light in living areas.0 -
I have 13 9w Megaman compact fluorescent GU10 fittings in my kitchen. The light off them is fantastic and they take very little time to warm up. They last 15000 hrs and are excellent value for money. The cheapest place to buy them is on ebay

Thats a good price fergee, shame I cant see them selling GU10 (50 watt), I have some other spots that are like that but instead of the pins being rounded at the ends they are just pins.0

I bought 19 luxeon 3 watt GU10 replacements from initial lights and I put them up 1 area at a time so that we could get used to them. I really like the cool light that they give but you have to be selective about where to use them. They work very well in the bathroom, dressing room, en suite and cloakroom. I put 5 in the kitchen and they are lovely with a small table lamp with a normal energy saving bulb, add a few candles on the table and the atmosphere when eating is perfect. They are not suitable for food prep and I know that I will be using the under-cupboard lights in winter
I did buy 3 for the hall but I don`t think I will be putting them in as the hall is enclosed and would be too dark. I would definitely buy them again and btw the customer service is excellent0 -
I have 2 x GU10 7w bulbs in my kitchen - they are a soft glow and I didn't realise you could get brighter ones, but having said that I do like them. I am all for a bit of mood lighting!!!
Mine were £2.99 each from Homebase. They are made by Megaman though.
Hope this helps - I'd suggest getting the stronger than 7w ones.
Oh and one last thing - they are not suitable for use on a dimmer switch - mine are on a dimmer but I keep it turned up on full - they make a buzzing noise for a minute or two but I guess this is just them getting up to full-power? At least I hope it is and I am not about to blow the house up? lol
