Moving into new house
I’m a first time buyer moving into my new home next week. When I move in, after taking meter readings for the energy providers, am I obliged to stay with those providers until the end of any contracts already agreed with the previous owner or can I switch to the best deal from other suppliers straightaway? Thanks!

Help, please... Meter clocking error
Hi folks, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am disabled and am with GB Energy for electricity. My meter went from 99999 to 10000 instead of 00001 and as a result I now have a huge bill. I pay monthly throughout the year. I'm not sure how I can prove to them that this is what has happened as they have asked all sorts of…

switching hassle finding a company for north of scotland
I have tried 3 companies now and I'm having to wait 7-10 days then get rejections saying they can't offer me gas and electric. I've been on the websites and there is absolutely nowhere to say they can't do my area. I've sent emails and messages and nobody ever gets back to me. The cheap energy club is the same, no…

EDF Energy and penalties...
Hello MSE fans! I was hoping to get some advice here. I have been with EDF Energy since around February 2016, and despite getting a reasonable deal of around 11p per kWh, that has jumpped to more than 17p now. I have discovered that they offer cheaper deals, but ONLY if you hand over your bank details so they can take…

Huge jump in direct debit
British Gas (am in tariff until August) tried to increase my direct debit from £28 to over £100 a month. This is in spite of me being in credit on the account by £54. Made the guy on chat change it back down. No email warning me.

Gas boiler money saving question
Hi MSE community been a while since I posted. Now to the details. I have a Potterton Diplomat 82 boiler which is still working apart from now and again when I have to relight the pilot. I am toying with the idea of getting it fixed or a new A rated boiler. I have a gas valve and thermocouple and have been quoted £80 to fit…

British Gas Homecare Annual Service is not annual
I have had Homecare with British Gas since 2002. In general I am pretty happy with it, despite the cost. However, one thing that irritates me is that the annual service is never annual. This year I was invited to book the next service 2 days before the anniversary, but the first appointment was 6 weeks away. We pay for a…

Economy Energy to Ovo
Excellent decision by OFGEM. I moved from Ovo to Economy to save a huge sum of money. Will be pleased to be back with Ovo despite likely price increase. OFGEM states the following on Facebook: Ofgem OVO Energy will honour all outstanding credit balances for both current and past customers of #EconomyEnergy. Warm Home…

How many energy companies are there?
How is competition going in the energy market? How many companies are there, are there more than 2/5/10 years ago? I recall a energy company going bust and one of the reasons sited was the energy cap, if xxxxcompany has a cash flow problem, they can no longer hike there prices for a month to resolve there problem. Of the…

Twittering about energy suppliers
I'm looking to change my supplier - haven't done it for ages. Since my last swap the spectre of the smart meter has arrived and I'm really not keen. I'm not normally a Luddite but I really don't like the idea of them and the problems they seem to be generating. Most suppliers are very clear when they do insist on your…

Problems leaving E Energy
Hi Has anyone had problems leaving E Energy or have any advice on what we should do now to this. We put in a switch to Bulb but changed our mind after a day so we could seach around more and give it some more thought. We decided this week (Monday) that we will switch to Bulb after all and started the switch again. We rang…

Economy Energy — no prepayment gas card
Hello! I’m really hoping someone with some experience of Suppliers of Last Resort can provide some advice, as I seem to be in a pickle :o I’m moving to a new house (renting) in early Feb. The house has prepayment meters fitted for both gas and electric — the electric has a payment key, but the gas meter didn’t have a…

Switch Now or wait for end of current deal?
My deal with Tonik Energy is up on the 18th February. As that's less than 50 days away, I am able to switch now, and according to Energy Club, I can save £95 over what I would have if I didn't switch. I first checked the deals a couple of weeks ago, to start mulling over any decisions, such as smart meter installs etc. But…

EON Smart Meters
I'm looking to switch to EON on a tariff which makes installation of a Smart Meter conditional. I understand that certain suppliers have been given authority to continue installing SMETS1 meters until the end of March. If EON offer me a SMETS1 meter, can I decline this in favour of a SMETS2? Avoiding SMETS1 Meter…

Opus erroneous transfer
For the second time in around 12 months OPUS energy have hijacked my father in laws electricity account without his authority or request. Opus blame a 3rd sector brokerage. Economy Energy I inputed wrong meter reading
Hi all, Thanks in advance for your help. I am with Economy Energy. I was about to switch yesterday when I discovered that they had gone bust. About 6 months ago, they increased my electricity DD to double what I was paying, even though I was in credit. I rung to ask to reverted to the original figure and they didn't do it.…
