Economy Energy I inputed wrong meter reading

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for your help.

I am with Economy Energy. I was about to switch yesterday when I discovered that they had gone bust.

About 6 months ago, they increased my electricity DD to double what I was paying, even though I was in credit. I rung to ask to reverted to the original figure and they didn't do it. So I was waiting my contract to finish to leave.

When I went to see my bill I discovered that on the 20th December they estimated the gas and energy and the estimate was 4 or more times the normal usage. So apparently, I owe them money.

I was advised to update the meter readings to the correct ones asap. When I go to see my meter the have estimated about 500 units of gas more than the correct amount and 2000 units of electricity more.

I sent the correct meter readings yesterday but today I realised that I made a mistake with the gas and instead of typing 03342 that was the reading, I typed 33342 as I was in a hurry and misread the numbers.

I have been trying to submit the correct reading now but the system wouldn't let me. I have pictures of the reading and on close inspection to the amount of gas I have used thougout the year it is clear that this is a mistake.

Even so i am worried that i will end up with a massive bill.

thanks in advance for the help

Take a photo of the meter and send it to EE meter reading and hopefully it will result in a correct bill.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

But they're bust, no one will be there !

The new supplier that ofgem appoint will take your new readings and then take it from there.

But on the bright side, you might get the next ten years gas at 2019 prices. :)

If the reading was 'unrealistic', then the system should reject it anyway and substitute it with an estimated reading.
Just update it with the Ofgem appointed supplier.

lol.. ironically like the Op my bills were generated recently and ridiculous over-estimates were used (the day after the Op's were)... it sounds like this was a last ditch attempt across many accounts to try to balance books or justify increased DDs (which obviously the OFGEM action then prevented) which seemed to be key to their dodgy activities enduring. So I sent readings... which their system rejected as unrealistic (being many hundreds of units lower than their fraudulent ones)... and then complained and was asked for photographs... I sent the photographs and then silence... and days later out of business.

I presume Op this is something to be addressed when new supplier appointed. Keep readings from the 8th Jan or as soon after I would say... ready for chat with new supplier who will have to sort out the current state of affairs with your account when they get it. Goodness knows how efficiently things will happen... hundreds of thousands of accounts... and to perhaps make it worse Economy Energy dealt with gas and electricity completely separately... the irony is they finally generated a bill for both on the same day... about the only positive things I can say about them.

    What a nightmare.
Today I managed to input the correct number. I was on holidays so I only discover this mess a couple of days ago when it was already lae. Anyway talking to customer services was always useless so I doubt that it would have helped at all.
Try again and see if now your correct number is accepted.

As if I had nothing to do I will now have to sort this mess, what a pain.

I realise I am late to the party on this one, but I accidentally gave an incorrect metre reading once with EE which put my metre into a lower read than the one I started with when I joined them. They acknowledged the reading was less and simply added a big credit to my account. So no, they don't question mistakes that are obvious mistakes. And because they bill erratically, I didn't see this until my final May bill this year after they went bust and now there's noone to talk to about it.
