Fitter's mark up - too high?
New boiler recently installed - we paid for it directly. There's the cost of the installation now to pay and the fitter also wants £200.00 for some extras which, according to the receipt for them, came to £80.00. Is this mark up too high or normal practice? We hadn't agreed to this sum - it was sent to us in a very receipt…

Clueless, please help.
Hello, I'll start by briefly explaining my situation. I'm 20 and because of certain circumstances, i need to take care of our bills (my parents house) I have no idea what's reasonable etc and i'm totally lost, not at all energy-aware unfortunately. We live in a semi detached 3 bedroom house (or 4 bedroom? the garage was…

The final bill totals 893.94 relating to the period 17/10/17 to 10/01/18. Is this actually possible??? According to EDF the calculations are as follows (2 tarrifs)... 1093 = 12326kwh…

Underfloor insulation
Hi Everyone, I have wooden floors in a small 2B bungalow. There are air bricks below the DPC all around the house. The front of the house faces north I therefore get a cold, and this time of year icy blast coming in through the air bricks. My floors are laminate for reasons of hygiene and I had the best thermal underlay…

Multi rate electricity v one rate tariff
My mother-in-law is 87 in sheltered housing and has economy 10 wet radiators on a multi rate tariff. SSE have offered her the option to change to a one rate tariff without the need to change meter. Does anyone know of any other companies who are offering this so I can compare prices.

Control Direct Debit Yourself
A lot of complaints on this energy forum relate to companies increasing direct debits when the customer thinks there's no need. At Bulb you can change your direct debit amount (and day it's taken) up or down yourself on their website with a couple of simple key taps. I haven't been with them long and I'm still well in…

Applying for mortgage—should I switch now?
That’s the question! There are savings to be had, according to the Cheap Energy Club, but with us about to apply for a mortgage and moving (hopefully) shortly thereafter (if successful, obviously!) is it wise to switch energy suppliers NOW? I’m considering— •The supplier would have to offer a portable tariff (or no exit…

What happens if a small energy provider goes bust?
Please can someone inform me if there are any rules laid down by Ofgem if an energy provider goes bust. Is the money a customer has in credit with such a company protected and is it refundable? Really concerned about Iresa's present situation. Personally I haven't encountered any problems using Iresa but I know a lot have…

Switching meters and suppliers?
Hi Our house currently has a pre-paid electric meter (a throw back from years ago). We have no credit issues so i don't think being able to change to a credit meter will be an issue. What i would like to know is our current supplier (SSE) monthly direct debt tariff is actually looking like £300 a year more than the current…

Energy Company chasing an unpaid bill 3 years late
Good day friends! In Feb 2015 I and housemates moved into a new house, immediately I changed the energy supplier to NPower and carried on as normal. Eventually (I can't remember when exactly), we received a bill, from Spark Energy, for the first few weeks before the new supplier took over, for a ridiculously high amount.…

MSE Energy Club - I'm stuck!
Hello Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I'm currently with First Utility where I pay for what I use, which I really like. I know the bills are higher in the winter but I prefer to pay for what I actually use. I've looked at the MSE Energy Club but am confused as to how I can search for this with new companies.…

BGas Legal Theft?
While finalising my accounts I see that Bgas (business) had not credited me back £77.63 that was due to me when I closed the account in June. Today they told me I should of requested it and its not policy to pay credit back to customer unless they ask for it! That can not be right can it?

Economy Energy
My first post; so apologies if it is in the wrong place. I took a new fixed contract with Economy Energy for my gas and electricity. This month, they have increased my monthly direct debit, without any reference to me. They cite that because of the recent poor weather they have increased my monthly direct debit. Unless, I…

Asked to pay to cover incorrect bills?
I did have a scout of the forums to see if this has been raised before but I couldn’t see it so… I recently gave my energy supplier an up to date meter reading for gas and electric following a December bill that was a bit steep for small six room bungalow (although December was a chilly one). They delighted me with a bill…

Cheap Energy Club, then charged the balance.
I have twice used the Cheap Energy Club to get cheaper deals on gas/elect. but at the end of the year I have been charged £100 & £100+ for the difference be between the price I had been paying on a fixed tariff & how much I owed, even though I had not missed a payment. So the amount was not from any payments I might have…

Am I moaning or does this seem right?
Hi, I moved into a beautiful but very old 1 bed property in September. It is a duplex sitting on the end of a big period house which is not used. My flat is in the first floor with storage on the ground floor. I am the only one that occupies this area. I have all electric including night storage heaters. It has been an…

Gas bill for property derelict since 2002
Sorry if this has been touched on before, I had a quick search and didn't see anything relevant. I've owned a property since 2002 which has been in a derelict state since before I bought it, i've never registered with the gas board as I was of the understanding the gas was cut off. Just recently I have received an invoice…
