Cheapest deal
I only use electric and when I choose an energy provider I look at the TCR (Tariff Comparison Rate). By law every provider must show this figure and this gives the cost of one Kilowatt of electric with all additional charges incorporated. The monetary figures then become academic. Simple. Martin. A modern day Robin Hood?

First Utility Cold Called
Hi, I had a cold call from an agent of first utility. I signed up with him as he said the figures I gave on my energy usage would bring my monthly payment down to £70 pm from the £99 I pay with EDF. I then received an email with the details of the contract and he has only put in my gas usage as £105 for the whole year,…

Grants for storage heaters
I am a landlord and have recently been contacted by a company who supply grants for replacement storage heaters. The company is called WorkWork ltd and tell me that the tenant qualified for the scheme. The whole thing seems a bit "iffy" - the initial contact seemed somewhat garbled and rushed. Has anyone had any experience…

economyseven.co.uk
I'm considering switching to them. Does anyone know anything about economyseven.co.uk? Has anyone switched to them? They have been slow at responding to emails which is a little worrying when you're enquiring about switching to them, but in fairness they did call me when prompted. I did some research. I tried a quick…

Good Afternoon, I am new to all this but can someone point me in the right direction please? I had a smart meter installed in December, mainly to help save money and to stop having to crawl into the cupboard to give readings. Low and behold the first month i had it my bills went up. I thought that was normal, maybe the…

My L&Q utilities - Am I being ripped off?
Hi, Can anyone shed some light on the following charges from my L&Q landlord for heat and hot water as they seem high but I have no idea how they compare to other utility co's. They supply the whole building from a central gas supply so it's not direct from the supplier and use a billing agent ISTA. The charges are as…

Collective switch timing fear of exit fees
My parents fix with Scottish Power ends on 31st March, that is 51 days after the 8th Feb collective switch end date. In the FAQ's it says the switch will not start for 14 days due to regulatory cooling off period. Does this mean they can apply for the switch 51 days and not be charged early exit fee from scottish power,…

This is what I was afraid of!!
Ok, so I've finally taken the plunge and have switched phone/broadband and energy suppliers. Already, in a week, I've had numerous phone calls, emails and queries about why I'm changing. I did my research thoroughly (thanks to MSE of course) and really don't want to get into the politics of why I'm changing with the…

Smart Thermostat to save money? (Nest/Hive/Tado/et
I've looked into it a bit, and prefer the look of the Nest one, visually and feature-wise, in particular the learning functionality. I expect this would lead to money saving, probably quite quickly, possibly paying for itself in a year or 2? We currently have an older boiler (a timeless Ideal classic), hot tank, TRV's, a…

Bulb cashback directly from MSE?
Hi all I recently switched by energy from SSE to Bulb via MSE's cheap energy club. So far so good, however I swear that there was a cashback offer attached to the switch. I've asked Bulb about this, and they say it comes directly from MSE. Is there any way for me to check what the cash back deal actually was - and how will…
