is it cheaper to leave hot water on or set it to a timer?
Hi, Just wondered if it was cheaper to have the hot water timer set to continuous or to set it just for mornings and evenings? I have recently changed the way I pay my gas & elec by sending a meter reading every month and paying for that months usage. However the last two payments have horrified me for gas £545 for the…

Very high gas bill - £315 for 2 months!
Hi, I moved into my new house on 12/11 and the meter reading was 04518. I've just received an actual bill for £314.87 as my last actual reading on 11/01 was 05303. I've had the heating on all day, every day through the big freeze - but even so, this is very high. The previous occupants have an outstanding Utilities Dispute…

Scottish Gas/Electricity guy took meter reading, I'm with British Gas?!
Girlfriend just text to say a guy from Scottish power came to check the meter reading - odd since I'm not even with them! She said he was a very strange guy too, but didn't come inside the house. Should I be concerned about anything? Is this some sort of scam? Someone eyeing up the house? Just a mixup? Going to call…

Freezer uneconomical?
Hello I have an ancient (40 years old) large chest freezer in my garage which is extensively used and has never missed a beat. Just got my recent invoice from British Gas for charges from 9 Sept to 4 Jan 2011. Noticed that I've been charged VAT at the higher rate of 20% on the entire amount. Eon claim to charge 17.5% before 4 Jan. However British Gas have charged higher rate on the whole amount! Businesses beware of this.

Scottish Power "product" confusion
The plethora of names used by different energy suppliers for different tariffs has always been a bit mind boggling where I'm concerned. But I had thought that a bill must accurately identify whatever scheme you happened to be on. We switched energy supplier on September 5th 2010. We signed up to ScottishPower's Online…

budgeting with First Utility
I recently switched to First Utility via a price comparison website. I tend to switch whenever Martin advises so I've done this several times now. Personally, I prefer to spread the cost of the winter fuel over the cheaper summer months and so I've always paid a fixed monthly fee. It has its drawbacks if the company…
