EDF - Can anyone beat this for a price hike - revised "gas payment plan"
Letter from EDF... "We have recently carried out a review of your monthly payments...blah blah blah. blah blah blah...blah blah blah....The result of tour review shows that your Direct Debit needs to change to £80 a month". Wow ! I was on £25 a month before. Mind you I do have a 5 bed house to heat. Anyone had a bigger…

Should I cap our bills?
Hello all, We're moving house next week, and I was looking for the best deal for gas and electricity. We'd prefer to pay by direct debit, and if possible go for a duel fuel deal to try and get the discounts! I think it would be a good idea to cap - we've found a deal for just over £600 for both fuels, which is capped until…

Refusing new tariff prices while your switch occurs
I saw this mentioned a few weeks back but this board is so busy it's took me an age looking through previous posts and I've still not found it. I applied for my switch (dual fuel) just before all the last caps got removed. I then got my letter in Aug from BG saying my prices increased on the 30th of July. Now someone else…

Average use of electricity for a beds semi
I use 10 units of electricity a day. I live in a small 3 bed semi, it is only two of us even when the adult child was living with us, we still use 10 units. I would have thought it would have been reduced by now. I only use electricity for the 2 TV, computer, washing machine use only once a week, I have got fridge freezer…

washing machine con ! - funded by electric suppliers?
 I have a Gas combi boiler 6 feet away from my Hot and Cold Supplied washing machine. It only heats up the water on-demand by the machine using the gas boiler. This method is much cheaper than electric heating using the elment in the washing machine which also takes more time. Why oh Why are all new washing machines…

Eon rip-off through delay?
I signed up for dual fuel with eon on 30 July. Their contract came through dated 6 August and quoted their newly raised prices not those of the date I had signed up! Anyone else had this problem? Has anyone got access to eon's "old" price structure? Jeff

Why are we using so much electric?
We are averaging about 20 units a day - me, my OH and 4 year old DS. We have a 4 bed house and I work from home four days a week with OH working from home 2 1/2 days a week. I have been obsessively watching the meter for the last two weeks, following the great advice I have read on here and daily consumption appears to…

List of debts but who to pay first / how much?
I have now got a list of my debts. It comes to just over £6k. Not as bad as I had thought but bad enough. Some of these debts are urgent. Council Tax - Baliff involved. £270 Electricity/Gas - looking to cut me off or make me pay £35 per week just in debt reduction far less fuel. Other less immediate debts. I know how much…

Just been pushed into signing gas over to EDF
I just got visited by an EDF guy, very high pressure, and I'm currently off sick with depression, so I'm not of the mind to battle him, tho I did try to ask him to give me the paperwork and let me read up on it, he wouldnt leave pretty much without me agreeing, also I asked him do I have to sign anything, he said no, then…

Switching From Brit Gas To Sainsbury
Hi, I've just recived an email from Sainsburys saying that If I switch to them for a 12 month fixed tariff they will send me £50 worth of vouchers. I'm currently with British Gas for my gas supply. Does anyone think this is a good move, or will the tariff be much higher with Sainsbury's than British Gas right now (if…

Switching from NPower - can they mess it up?
Hi, We've had some poor service from NPower after giving them a corrected meter reading - its taken them 4 months to put it through and they've just told me it wont be done until September! I find this ridiculous so am going to move suppliers. The question is: How hard is it, and what with NPower's utter incompetence are…

Cost of Standby Electricity.
I've worked out that if a certain appliance I have is just left on standby then it uses 11kW of electricity per annum. To work out how much this costs do you just multiply it by the unit rate of electricity you pay?

nPower is demanding unfair charges. Can anyone help?
Hi, everyone, this is my first post and I was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice. I recently moved house and the new house had a prepayment meter installed with npower. We decided to just use the meter for ease. It soon became apparent that there had been a debt attached to the meter and it was taking money off…

Should I cap? Letter from EON
I received a letter from EON advertising the fact that I can cap my gas and electricity online. Now I'm a bit sceptical because I'm not sure if it could save me money in the long run they'd be advertising that fact! It will cost a 10.5% increase on my electricity and a 16.5% increase on my gas to cap. The following is what…

Moving house - E-ON

Owe money, prepayment meter, can I switch?
Hi, new to the boards but impressed with what i've read so far! Recommended by a friend. Advice needed: when I separated from my partner 4 years ago he left me with an electricity debt in excess of £1000. I was 'persuaded' to have a prepayment meter fitted by powergen and have been paying for my power that way ever since.…

Benefits of 'downsizing' HW cyclinder?
So, my lifestyle means I have moderate needs for h/w; currently running the gas boiler for 20 mins in the morning is more than enough. Anyone tried downsizing their cylinder to one like this, it's about 600mm high - One downside I can see is there's no provision for an immersion element as a backup to the gas.
